  • Notes
    • Aitkin, George

It is our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of one of our best citizens, Mr. George Aitkin, which took place on Saturday evening, at the family residence, on Cameron St. Mr. Aitkin was born in Lilliesleaf, Roxfordshire, Scotland, in 1860. He came to Canada and settled in Galt about 1880 and worked for some time for Saunders & Cranston, at the harness-making business, after which he bought out Mr. R. Murray, who moved away, but who returned again and they entered into a partnership, which they continued until Mr. Artkin's health became bad and he sold out to Mr. Murray. Of late years he has been employed in the office, (when his health permitted) of Mr. F. G. Allenby. He was married in 1884 to Miss Nellie Dunn, daughter of Mr. J. P. Dunn, of Chattanooga, Tenn., who survives him, together with three children, two girls and a boy, aged six, four and one year. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon and was followed to the grave by a large number friends and relatives.
