  • Notes
    • This was a woman that could never be replaced. She was a wife, mother and friend of everyone. She was born in Berlin, Ont., then went to Waterloo, Ont. She passed away in Kitchener, Ont. She was one of the nicest, best, good hearted, honest, hard working woman that was loyal to her husband and family. She was always ready to help anyone in need, brought up a family of 12 (one died early in life) and then myself, making the total still 12, through hard times and half of the children had Black Dyphtheria and not one died which was a miracle. She thought a lot of every child. I cannot say enough of the woman I call grandma. She took me in at the age of 4 and raised me after her son, my father died. She cured many babies of ills or the elderly. She was known as the family doctor. Several near that passed away she layed out, ready for the undertaker.

I cannot say how she did everything she had to do because it was endless. I know her soul will rest at peace and she will have a place for her Eternal Life. She has passed her emotions and goodwill to all her family.

The hardships were many, get up early in morning, ice on the kitchen water, light up kitchen stove (from wood stored in oven the night before) and get everone their breakfast as they arose. I peeled apples with the apple peeler and she would core them ready for drying on he screen set above the stove. The day was not long enough for her labours, baking bread (12 loaves at a time), washing clothes with the scrub board, and made soap. She came to Oshawa to my place and brought a child into the world and helped endless. She did so much for me.

Pages are not long enough to write the necessities of her life but when the final days of her life approached, she still never gave anyone a moment of ther feelings as she knew her life was fast coming to an end. She told Clara to help as she lay in bed downstairs in her bedroom to get her out of bed and ease the breathing, as her lungs were filling with fluid of what I guess was old people's pneumonia. She prayed for God not to save her but take her out of her hardship and give her Eternal Life. May she have it and be there to greet us one and all as we shop up. "Thy will be done Oh Lord"

Written by Frank Hunter about his grandmother in September 1977.
