- RIDER, Mildred Agnes (Millie) After an extremely long, determined and courageous battle with cancer, Millie has finally decided to rest, on Monday, January 10, 2011, in her 71st year.
She touched many people with her care and compassion and her love of life stands as a wonderful memory for her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Dr. Stanley Iwan.
Also survived by her sister Margaret (Frank) Groselle and her brothers Jim (Josephine) Rider and Joe Rider.
She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and many grand- nieces and nephews.
She was a special friend and mentor to the Iwan children, Susan (Greg), Tom (Kyungshin), Michael and Stephen (Jen) as well as their children, Emma and Max, Cas and Josh, and Brooke.
Predeceased by her mother Agnes and her father William.
Millie was a graduate of the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing.
She took this training far and wide serving as a nurse in San Francisco, Florida, Bermuda, Ireland and Saudi Arabia.
She returned to Canada and was a Head Nurse at Toronto Western Hospital and then K-W Hospital.
In 1985 she served as the original Executive Director of the newly founded Placement Co-ordination Service affiliated with St. Mary's Hospital.
When PCS was taken over by the provincial Community Care Access Centre, she became a valued member of CCAC.
She served or was active in many community organizations including the Community Advisory Committee for LINHS, the 55 Plus Committee of Waterloo, the Elder Abuse Harmony Interactive Theatre and the Probus Club.
Special thanks to Doctors Elaine Boutell, Andre Moolman and Donna Ward, her dear friend Fran Ratchford, her sister Margaret and her niece Sherri Setchell.
Thanks also to the staff of 6B at Grand River Hospital and Union 3 at Freeport Hospital.
Fr. Ronald Voisin officiated the Funeral Mass.
Millie was cremated.
In lieu of flowers donations could be made through the Funeral Home in Millie's name to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or to Elder Abuse at the Mosaic Centre in Kitchener.
