  • Notes
    • GALT, June 23. Lance-Corporal Henry Lanning, a veteran of the first contingent, was killed in action on June 13, according to a message received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lanning, Barrie street, this moming. The deceased soldier was among the first Galtonians to join. Just a year ago this month his name appeared twice in the casualty lists, June 1, 1915, as suffering from concussion, and June 2 as having received a leg wound. Deceased was 32 years of age. He was a member of the S.O.E. and very well known in the city. He had soldiered in England with the garrison artillery, lancers, and the A.MC. Only on Tuesday, his mother received a letter, in which he referred to how he was looking forward to the end of the war. He was single and besides his parents is survived by five brothers and three sisters. One brother, Reginald, is with the 111 (South Waterloo) Battalion.
