  U. of W. Marketing Centre Founder Dies ROYDON M. BARBOUR …marketing pioneer Roydon M. Barbour, 73, found of the centre for continuing studies in marketing at the University of Waterloo, died Monday at the Toronto General Hospital where he had been for a month. Mr. Barbour was one of Canada's best-known marketing and advertising pioneers having served for more than 50 years in various capacities. In recent years he lived in Waterloo where he was director of university's marketing centre. There he organized short courses for marketing and sales personnel from all over Canada. He retired last July and moved back to Toronto where he continued to represent the centre in arranging workshops for the Toronto area. A native of Fredericton, N.B., he started his career after the First World War in which he served with the 25th Nova Scotia Battalion. He was awarded the Military Cross. Early in the university's history he conducted marketing courses for the extension department and this led to the development of the marketing centre in the early '60s. He was founder and past president of the Advertising and Sales Club of Toronto and was ??? two years as international vice-chairman of NSE He was a winner of the first silver medal awarded by the Association of Canadian Advertisers to a member of the graphic arts for outstanding contribution to advertising in Canada. Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Blogg; a son, Robert, in Waterloo, and two daughters, Mrs. Gordon Mitchell (Beverley) of Toronto and ??? The Kitchener-Waterloo Record Mar 17 1970.
