    Notes:

Charles Roos, Boots and Shoes, Main Street - Situated in the centre of commercial activity on the principal thoroughfare of trade in Galt, and carrying one of the most complete stocks of boots and shoes in the town, the house of Charles Roos stands prominent as one of the chief wholesale and retail establishments. Established in Preston in 1845, the business was removed to Galt 15 years ago, where greater scope was afforded for the increased facilities of the house. It has had a long, honorable and prosperous career, until to day it has grown in commercial importance, and occupies a position well to the front among the best houses in this section of the country. The premises occupied are commodious and well adapted to the business. They are 22x140 feet in dimensions and three stories in height, which are stored with a large and complete stock of goods, embracing ladies', misses', gentlemen's, boys' and youths' boots and shoes, and rubbers of all kinds, purchased direct from the principal manufacturers. In addition to dealing in the above goods, Mr. Roos makes a specialty of boots and shoes to order, and he is enabled in this respect to turn out as handsome, well-fitting and durable goods as can be produced. Mr. Roos gives employment to thirteen assistants and workmen, who are thoroughly competent and skillful. The business extends throughout the town and country. Mr. Roos is a native of Alsace, and came to this country when only 3 years old. While in Preston, he was a member of the Town Council. He is a gentleman highly esteemed in the community, and an upright, honorable business man.
