William and Elizabeth Moorfoot were married in 1822 in the Parish of Lund, in the County of Yorkshire or the Parish of Loch. They were living in Lockington when their first child, Ann was born in 1824. The place of marriage, however, has never been officially determined. William Townshend and his family emigrated to Canada in 1847. While on their way from England, their ship was wrecked and the survivors were marooned on an Island for 3 days with nothing but cornmeal and water. They lost practicaly all of their possessions. Among some of the things saved are a rocker of period design, the plum design made in 1750, now owned by Lawrence ? of Sarnia, the gold anchor from the uniform of John Townshend was owned by Donald Crich of London, and a brooch cantaining a scene, now in the possession of Mrs. William Bell of Halifax. William was born in Leaven Parish and Elizabeth in Bridlington, Quay. They settled in the County of Waterloo near Berlin, now Kitchener. William died in 1850 of cholora. They were buried in a cemetery near Kitchener which has since fallen into disuse and had been worked over, Later the remains were moved to Mount Hope Cemetery. The marker became lost.

The following was the inscription on the tombstone of william I Townsend "Our parents here lie underground, the dearest friends we ever found, But through the Lord's unbound love, We hope to meet in realms above." This was copied by Isbella Sararas.
