    David C. Kyle

    David Cullen Kyle of 515 Fangs Drive, Preston. passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Monday. February 17th. He was 76. Born in Ayr on August 7, 1915, he was a son of the late John C. Kyle and Florence Whitson. Mr. Kyle received his education in Ayr. worked at the John Watson factory as a painter, and was a fine softball player with the old Ayr Vics teams. Mr. Kyle served with the army during World War II. Upon his return he moved to Preston and was self employeed as an egg and poultry dealer. He retired eleven years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church. Preston: member of the I 0.0.F. Lodge in Ayr. and later transferred to Cambridge No 188 when Ayr Lodge closed: was very active in events at Fairview Mennonite Centre. Preston. Surviving are his wile, the former Elizabeth Frosch: a daughter Mrs. Ed (Nancy) Laverty of Peterborough: grandsons Justin and Kyle. an a sister Betty Kyle Resting at the Barthel Funeral Home Preston today (Wed ) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m . An I.O.O.F. memorial service will he held at the funeral home at 7 p.m this evening. Funeral service will he held at St. Paul's United Church. King Street. Preston, on Thursday at 2 p m Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Of 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge, on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in her 89th year. Elizabeth Kyle (Frosch), beloved wife of the late David Kyle. Loving mother of Nancy Laverty and her husband Ed of Lakefield. Sadly missed by her grandsons, Justin, Kyle and her best friend and sister-in-law, Betty Kyle. Mrs. Kyle is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Elizabeth (Snyder) Frosch and her siblings, Earle, Leon, Clarke, Howard, Fred, Claude, Vernard (in infancy) and one sister, Evelyn. Elizabeth was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church and the UCW. She was a gracious caring person who encouraged others in her gentle way. She had been very active and had many interest including crafts, reading, watching baseball, hockey and lacrosse. Visitation will take place at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge today (Thursday), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Elizabeth's life will take place, at the Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Dr., Cambridge, on Friday, August 9, 2002, at 2 p.m.

    Passing of John C. Kyle

    John C. Kyle, a former long-time resident of Ayr, passed away at his home in Galt on Saturday evening in his 79th year. Mr. Kyle resided with his daughter, Miss Betty Kyle. Jack, as he was known to all his old friends here, resided in Ayr for some 42 years, making his home on Swan Street. Soon after the passing of his wife, the former Florence Whitson, some eight years ago, he went to live with his daughter in Galt.

    Born in Drumbo

    He was born in Drumbo, a son of Walter Kyle and Florence Cullen, and came to Ayr about 1912. For many years he carried on the business of painting and decorating, and for a time worked in the carpenter shop of the John Watson Mfg. Co.

    Popular in Fraternal Circles


    Mr. Kyle was popular in fraternal circles, being a member of both Ayr Masonic Lodge and Dolman Lodge, IOOF, Ayr. Formerly a member of Knox United Church, Ayr, he transferred his membership to St. Paul's United Church, Preston, upon leaving this village. He was one of the popular members of Ayr Bowling Club for many years. Surviving are two children, Miss Betty Kyle, Galt, and David C. Kyle, Preston; also one granddaughter, Miss Nancy Kyle.

    The Funeral

    The funeral took place from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Tuesday, the service being conducted by Rev. A. L Waters of Preston. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Erb Clark, James C. Swan, Arthur Underwood, James D. Patterson, Reid Leonard and Charles A. Bain.

    FROSCH, FREDERICH

    Funeral service was held on December 29, 1949 for Mr. Frosch, who died at his home, 1718 King St. in Preston, early Monday morning, December 26, 1949, in his 82nd year. In failing health for some years, he was seriously ill for the past week. Mr. Frosch was born in Centreville on June 4, 1868. He farmed in Puslinch for many years, before coming to Preston. At one time, he worked on the Wilkes' estate and for a time, was an employee of the Preston Car and Coach. By trade, he was a barn framer and carpenter. He had lived in this district all his life. Mr. Frosch was a member of St. Paul's United Church. Predeceased four years ago by his wife, Elizabeth Snyder. Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. J. Dauphinee) of Windsor; Elizabeth (Mrs. David Kyle) at home; six sons, Earl of Galt; Leon of Cleveland; Howard of Paris; Clark of Hamilton; Fred of Puslinch; Claude of Hespeler; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral at the Stager Pass Funeral Home. Rev. F. C. Miller officiated. Interment Blair Cemetery.

    Oldest Native Resident Gone - Demise of Mr. Thomas Whitson After Short Illness - In this year of grace we celebrate its 100th anniversary and the Sunday last the …?... Ayr cemetery the remains of the ...?... native-born citizen in the person of Thomas Whitson who passed away the …?... Friday, in his 84th year. It is regrettable, of course, that Mr. Whitson's lease of life did not extend beyond the date of the proposed celebration …?... August, but while man proposes, …?...poses. For nearly 84 years he was an eye-witness of the growth and material advancement of the village where he spent all his life, and was …?... with all the manifold events pertaining to the community, thus constitutes an encyclopedia of first-hand knowledge concerning local affairs, and would have ranked as the oldest native born citizen in the coming Centennial. The deceased, who had been ill only a couple months, had enjoyed good health practically all his life and took a deep interest in mundane affairs almost to the last. He was an enthusiastic curler, and a few years ago was elected an honorary member of the local club. He was also a keen horseman and for a long series of years was …?... master at the horse shows and fall fairs in the district. In politics he was a Liberal and in religion a Presbyterian. As a citizen, he evinced concern in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the community. His activities in …?... naturally resulted in a wide acquaintance among men of affairs, while his ?banity and marked affability entitled him to the esteem and respect which was his. For a great many years he was in the employ of The John Watson Manufacturing Co. He married …?... Elizabeth Gladstone …?... The family …?... three daughters and one son. They are: Mrs. Jno. Melvin, Galt; Mrs. J. C. Kyle, Ayr, and Mary and Edward at home. A sister, Mrs. James Dockburn?, Hamilton, also survive. The funeral was largely attended, Rev. J. J.     FOUND DEAD IN FIELD

    Mr. Israel Snider, Well Known Waterloo County Farmer Passes Away Suddenly

    LARGE FAMILY SURVIVES

    Mr Israel Snider of near Crosshill brother of Mr William Snider and Mrs Aaron Kraft, Waterloo died very suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, being found dead in the field on his farm about three o'clock. Deceased although a sufferer from heart troubles for about a year, was able to attend to his duties and on the day of his death was feeling better then usual. After diner he went to the field with disc and team and about three o'clock it was noticed that his team was going about the field without a driver and on investigation Mr Snider was found dead. The late Mr Snider was born on the old homestead near Waterloo, now occupied by Bishop Jonas Snider. Previous to moving to the farm near Crosshill sixteen years ago he resided near Berlin, where he also followed the occupation of farmer. Deceased was in his 42nd year being born August 17, 1839. On October 16th, 1860 he was married to Veronica Martin who died June 7th, 1878. On January 14th 1879 he was again married to Mary Baetz who survives.. His family consists of eighteen children of whom the eldest eight were born unto his first wife viz: Noah, died in infancy, Nancy (Mrs Moses U. Clemens) Mariette Mich., Hannah (Mrs. Daniel E. Shantz) of Berlin, Veronica (Mrs. ?? B. Betzner) Berlin, Isaiah died a year ago [1910], Elizabeth (Mrs Frederick Fr??) Blair, Elias died at age of 5 years, Mary Ann (Mrs. Mrs O. Cobler) Sandusky, Mich. Sylvester, died in infancy, Jacob, Waterloo, Nelson and Aldon, Berlin, Alberta, Toronto, Israel, Waterloo, Elenora (Mrs. Jack Armstrong), Waterloo, Alice, Elma and Loretta, at home. The following brothers and sisters also survive: E.W.B. Snider, St Jacobs, William Snider, Waterloo, Bishop Jonas Snider of near Waterloo, Jacob, John and Isaac, German Mills, Tilman and Amos in Iowa, Mrs. Aaron Kraft, Waterloo, Mrs. Eph. Shantz, Didsbury, Alta. The funeral will be held on Friday at 11: 30 a.m. from his late residence near Crosshill to the Mennonite Church, Berlin for services and the East End Cemetery for interment. Many friends will morn with deep regret of the death of Mr. Snider who was well and favourably known throughout the County where he was an esteemed and respected residence. The bereaved have the sympathy of the community in their affliction.
