    Notes:

William Wesley Lawrason was born in 1835 at Dumfries Twp., Gore District, Upper Canada,

He married Jane Thomson on 26 October 1865 at Waterloo County.

The marriage registration as entered into the registration book, is smudged and difficult to read. Where clear, it is obvious that the clerk had a problem with the ministers handwriting. Still, and with the available evidence, it is copied here as it appears on the page:

Return of Marriages Solemnized by M. MacKenzie, a Minister of the Canada Presbyterian Church for the year unto the 31st December AD 1865 Win W. Lamason 27, residing Waterloo, born 5 Dumfries. Father Wim. Lamason. Mother's name not given. Jane Thomson residing Waterloo, bom Watertoo Tp. Parents Jas Thomson and Mary Gavin. Witnesses names are smudged, but one appears to be a Thomson (possibly M.), a resident of Waterloo, and perhaps another Thomson, resident Dumfries. Oct. 26, 1865.

Some of this information is problematic, but the marriage of daughter Victoria shows her parentage as Wesley Lawrason and Jane Thomson. Victoria and her husband are buried with Wellington Lawrason and his wife at Mountview in Galt. Wellington was executor for the will of his aunt, Mary Lawrason Thomson, and she refers to him as her nephew. The evidence suggests that Mary's brother's full name was William Wesley Lawrason, Lamason, as it appears in the marriage registratration seems to be a handwriting problem on the part of the clergyman,

Also, given the available evidence, the name Wm. which is shown as the groom's father must be taken as a clerical mistake.

The above clergyman, M. McKenzie, was evidently Malcolm McKenzie. According to Donald A. McKenzie, in his Obituaries from Canadian Presbyterian Periodicals, 1872- 1896, Global Heritage Press, page 166, Malcolm McKenzie became the minister at Doon and Hespeler in Waterloo County in February of 1862. 13 Jan 2019 Copyright © 2010-2022 by Faye West & Robert Coleman
