She was born December 15th, 1828. Soon after their marriage they moved one mile north of Breslau, on the farm now owned by their son, Solomon S., where they resided until October 23 1889, then they moved to near St. Kilian, Nobles County, Minnesota, where they are now residing and spending the evening of their life in comfort and ease. To them were born eight children"

    Jacob Gole passed away Wednesday night at the home of his son, M.E. Gole at the ripe old age of over ninety five years. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M.E. church, Rev. J.G. Waterman preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the Ocheyedan cemetery.

    Jacob Gole was born in Stutyard, Germany, October 15, 1819 and died at the home of his son, M.S. Gole in Ocheyedan, December 14, 1914, aged 95 years, 1 month and 24 days. When about ten years of age, he came to America with his parents. In 1847 he was united in marriage with Catherine Shoemaker. They set up housekeeping on a homestead 1 mile north of Breslow, Ontario, where they remained for 42 years, when they moved to Nobles County, Minnesota. In 1893 they came to Ocheyedan. For the past 11 years the deceased made his home with his son, M.S. Gole. About a year ago his wife and life companion was taken to her long home; one son also preceded him in death. The summons came at 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening, when quietly and peacefully he closed his eyes in sleep. The surviving relatives are M.S. Gole, Ocheyedan, J.S.     John Shoemaker, "second son of George Shoemaker, was born in the old Shoemaker residence situated on the north side of the Swamp Creek, near the old carding and fulling mills, in Frederick Township Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, December 26th, 1800. He learned the shoemaking trade with Abraham Harley of Towamencin. On October 12th, 1823, he was married to Catharine, daughter of Henry and Mary (Heller) Fried. She was raised by old Jacob Clemens. After they were married they moved to George Clemens' in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. On May 10th, 1825, he, with his wife and son Jacob, his brother George, Jacob and George Clemens and their families, Charles Mohr, Martin Schiedel, Henry Clemmer and family, Henry Moyer and family, Jacob Kolb, and others, left for Canada and arrived at Preston on the 1st of June following. John Shoemaker moved on the farm known as "Bill Moyer's Place", near Berlin, now possessed by Isadore B. Snyder. Here they lived for two years then they moved on west side of Jacob Y. Shantz's saw mill pond, in Joseph Eby's house. This house was previously occupied by Henry Clemmer who had moved to Preston. On February 20th, 1829, they left here and moved on their farm one mile north of Breslau. Here he still resides with his son, George F. On this farm, lot No. 107, Horning's Tract, there were several acres cleared and a small log house erected in fall of 1828. The old house was about 150 yards south-east from the present residence. Here they raised a family of eight children. She died December 25th, 1879."

    SHOEMAKER
    . - John D. Shoemaker was born in Montgomery Co., Pa., December 26th 1800, was married to Catherine Fried, Oct. 12th 1823, emigrated to Waterloo Co., Canada in 1825, lived in matrimony 56 years, his wife dying about 16 years ago. He died on the 30th of September 1895, aged 94 years, 9 months and 4 days. His posterity numbers 8 children (4 sons and 4 daughters) of whom 6 survive him; also 66 grandchildren, 102 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. The funeral services, conducted by Daniel Wismer and S. Stauffer, were largely attended.
