    FREY, Bertha Mae Peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Grand River Hospital after a brief, courageous battle with cancer, in her 73rd year. Bertha Frey, of Hawkesville, was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Frey (2002). Loved mother of Murray and his friend Sandy of Hawkesville, Terry and Liz of Hawkesville, Donna and Paul Steinman of Shakespeare, Yvonne and Darryl Bender of St. Clements. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Charity (Tim), Nick (Jocelyn), Stacey, Cassidy, Carly and Katelyn, and her great-grandchildren Ruth and Emery. Dear sister of Doris Metzger and Ruth Ann (Mel) Irish. Also remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents Elmer and Mabel Streicher. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Private interment will take place. A memorial service will be held in Hawkesville Mennonite Church on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Perry Bartel officiating.     Streicher, Solomon, son of John and Magdalena (Bender) Streicher, was born near Wellesley, Ont., Jan. 23, 1877; died at Avon Crest Hospital, Stratford, Ont., June 18, 1964; aged 87 y. 4 m. 26 d. On Nov. 5, 1901, he was married to Bena Yantzi, who died March 1, 1962. Surviving are 2 daughters and one son (Barbara - Mrs. David Schwartzendruber, Magdalena - Mrs. Aron Stere, and Elmer), 2 brothers (Ezra and David), 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Tavistock Church, where funeral services were held June 20, in charge of Henry Yantzi, Vernon Zehr, Dan Wagler, and Dan Zehr.

Church at 2.30 o'clock p.m. Interment will be made in the adjoining Cemetery.

    Moses Mayer

    ST. AGATHA - A lengthy illness ended in death for Moses Mayer, 79, early today at his home in St. Agatha. He was a retiree farmer.

    Mr. Mayer was born May 25, 1872 at Baden, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Mayer. His wife, the former Rachel Lichti, whom he married April 2, 1901 at St. Agatha survives. He was a member of St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church. Surviving are five sons, Elmer of Kitchener, Clarence of Lowville. N.Y.; Allen and Edgar of St. Agatha and William of Tavistock: four daughters, Mrs. Simon (Adeline) Gingrich of Lowville, Mrs. Jerry (Elmina) Wismer of Bright Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Striecher of Tavistock and Mrs. William (Viola) Gingrich of Kitchener; 26 grand- children and three great-grand- children. One son, Aaron, died in 1911.

    Mr. Mayer was the last surviving member of the Joel Mayer family.

    The body will be at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Thursday when removal will be made to his home in St. Agatha. A private funeral will be held at the home Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by services at St. Agatha AM Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Peter Nafziger will officiate.

    Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Surviving are 3 sons (Elmer, Clarence, and William), 4 daughters (Viola-Mrs. William Gingerich, Adeline - Mrs. Simon Gingerich, Elmina - Mrs. Jeremiah Wismer, and Mabel - Mrs. Elmer Streicher), 28 grandchildren, and 56 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Agatha Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held June 2, with Gerald Schwartzentruber and Elmer Schwartzentruber in charge.

    MAYER, Rachel (Lichti)

    Mrs. Moses Mayer of 526 Stirling Ave. S. died Sunday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 91.

    Born near St. Agatha, she was the former Rachel Lichti, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholaus Lichti. She and her husband farmed near St. Agatha for many years. After the death of her husband in 1952 she lived with her daughter, Mrs. William (Viola) Gingerich.
    She was a member of the St. Agatha Mennonite Church.

    Surviving are three sons, Elmer of Kitchener, Clarence of Lowville, N.Y., and William of RR 1, New Hamburg; four daughters, Mrs. Gingerich, Mrs. Simon (Adeline) Gingerich of Lowville, N.Y., Mrs. Jeremiah (Elmina) Wismer of Bright and Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Streicher of Tavistock; 28 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren.

    Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by three sons, Allen, Edgar and Aaron, five sisters and five brothers.
    The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Wednesday when removal will be made to the church for service at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Gerald Schwartzentruber and Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Donations the church building fund will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

    STREICHER. - John, son of Leonhard and Barbara Streicher, was born in Wellesley Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., on Dec. 2, 1852. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was a lifelong member of the Amish Mennonite Church. On June 13, 1875, he was married to Magdalena Bender of Wilmot. To this union were born 2 children, 1 son and one daughter, Barbara, who predeceased him in her early childhood. They lived in matrimony 14 years. His wife died on April 5, 1889. On Jan. 5, 1890 he was married to Leah Lebold of Wilmot. To this union 3 sons were born, of whom 1 died in infancy. They lived in matrimony 27 years until the death of his wife on Aug. 14, 1917. Since then he has lived as a widower for more than 23 years. He passed away at his home in South Easthope, Perth Co., on Sunday, Nov. 10, 1940 at the ripe old age of 87 y. 11 m. 9 d. He leaves to mourn his demise, 3 sons, Solomon and Ezra of South Easthope, David of East Zorra, 3 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at the Amish Mennonite Church near Poole, Ont.

    Yantzi. - Michael K. Yantzi was born in France, Aug. 22, 1847; died in North East Hope, Ont., on July 6, 1917; aged 69 y. 10 m. 14 d. He came with his parents to Canada when he was about two years old.

    In his early youth he accepted Christ as his Savior, was baptized, and remained faithful to the end as a member of the Amish Mennonite Church. On Dec. 3, 1872, he was married to Barbara Ruby and lived in matrimony 42 y. 2 m. 3 d. To this union were born 6 sons and 5 daughters. His wife and 1 son preceded him to the spirit world. He leaves to mourn their loss 5 sons, 5 daughters, 20 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters.

    On Sept. 9, 1883, he was ordained as deacon in East Zorra A. M. Church, on April 20, 1902, he was called to the ministry and on Oct. 21, 1914, he was ordained as bishop in the East Zorra A. M. congregation, in which capacities he faithfully served his Lord and Master. He was buried on July 9 at the E. Z. A. M. church where services were conducted by C. Kropf and D. M. Steinman. Texts, I Cor. 15:22 and II Peter 1.
