    BAST, Emmeline Salome - Passed away, on Saturday, May 22, 1999, at her residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg. Emmeline was formerly of RR 1, New Hamburg and was born in East Zorra township 79 years ago the daughter of the late Nicholas and Sarah (Brenneman) Ruby. She was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden and enjoyed quilting and embroidering as her hobbies. Beloved wife of Ervin Bast who predeceased her August 26, 1983. Dear mother of Keith and his wife Saundra of New Hamburg, Ken and his wife Laura of RR 1, St. Jacobs and Orval and his wife Jackie of Tavistock. Lovingly remembered by four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, Darrin, Casey, Meghan and Shannon Bast, Scott Pettigrew, Lee Pettigrew, Pam Valeriote and Todd Pettigrew. Also re-membered by seven step-great -grandchildren and her sisters-in-law, Melinda Roth of Tavistock, Irene Ruby of Kitchener, Dorothy Wagler of New Hamburg and brother-in-law, Ivan Gingerich of New Hamburg. Emmeline was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law. Nelson Ruby, Clayton (Ike) and Christina Ruby, Ervin (Jake) and Laura Ruby, Mahlon and Ruby Ruby and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edna Gingerich, Mabel and Willis Gingerich and Ivan Wagler. Friends and relatives called at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, on Sunday, May 23. The funeral service was held on Monday, May 24, 1999 at Steinmann Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden, at 2: 30 p.m., with Pastor Herb Schultz officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Steinmann Mennonite Church or Nithview Home.

    Ruby.- Sarah, daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Steinman) Brenneman, was born in South Easthope Twp., Ont, Mar. 5, 1884; died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Oct. 19, 1977; aged 93 y. She was married to Nicklas Ruby, who died in 1935. Surviving are one son (Ervin), one daughter (Emmaline-Mrs. Ervin Bast), 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 sons (Clayton, Nelson, and Mahlon). She was a member of the Tavistock Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Oct. 22, in charge of Wilmer Martin; interment in the East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th Line.

    BISH. JOSEPH RUBYJoseph Ruby was born on the 12th of July, 1813 in Alsace-Lorraine, France (now Germany), came to Canada in 1839, and was married to Magdalena Roth on the 17th of November 1840, and lived in matrimony 46 years, 3 months and 17 days; his wife died 9 years, 11 months and 13 days before him. He died on the 12th* of January, 1897, aged 83 years, 6 months and 4 days. Of his 9 children, 8 survive, one living in Colorado; there are also 58 grandchildren living and 3 dead, and 3 great-grandchildren. In 1852 he was ordained to the ministry, and in 1853 to the office of bishop. He served faithfully in his calling for about 43 years in the East Zorra Mennonite Congregation. His funeral, on the 19th, was very largely attended. Funeral services by Chr. Zehr from John 5: 25--30 and Chr. Litwiller from 2 Tim. 4: 6--9.

    RUBY - On the 3d of Feb., in Perth County, Ont., Magdalena (Roth) Ruby, aged 68 years, 6 months and 29 days. She leaves a husband, 8 children and 46 grandchildren to mourn her death; yet they have the assurance that it is well with her. She was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church over 50 years. She was buried on the 6th, followed to the grave by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Services in the Amish Mennonite Church by Chr. Litwiller and Jacob Bender from 1 Thessalonians 6: 12 and John 5: 21-26.1a
