    ______________

Passed Away \endash The intimation given in our columns last week will have prepared our readers today for the announcement of the death of Mrs. John Cavers, wife of John Cavers, Esq., manager Imperial Bank of Canada in Galt, which sad event took place at the residence of her parents in Hamilton on Thursday evening of last week. It was fondly hoped in the early part of the week that the crisis of Mrs. Carvers' disease was past, and that she would recover; but it was not to be, and as we have stated, she calmly sank to her eternal rest on Thursday evening. The deceased lady was the second daughter of Robert Wallace, Esq., a prominent business man of Galt in days gone by, and had spent the greater portion of her life in this town. She was united in marriage with Mr. Cavers in the year 1871, and leaves a family of five children to mourn the loss of a loving mother. She was widely known and universally respected throughout this town and neighborhood, and all will unite in extending the most heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and parents.

The remains were brought to Galt for interment by the 5:13 p.m. train on Saturday. A large number of our townspeople, as well as a good representation from Ayr, assembled at the station to pay the last sad tribute of respect to one who had well a truly filled her position in life. The body was taken to the Central Presbyterian Church, where appropriate services were held, and from thence for interment in our beautiful cemetery.

    ROBERT WALLACE'S DEATH

The death is announced elsewhere of Mr. Robert Wallace, a former well-known and very highly respected resident of Galt, but who has been living for some years in Toronto. He was much beloved and his death will cause sorrow among a large circle of friends, both in Toronto and Galt. His death took place on Sunday morning, at 12 10 a.m., at his residence, 75 Harhord St., Toronto. The deceased who was of Scotch descent was born in 1814 and consequently was in his 79th year. He came to Canada in 1834, settling in Beverly, where he remained for two years after which he moved into Galt and immediately went into the grocery business in the stand now occupied by Mr. Jas. Trotter. In the year 1839 three years after he came to Galt he was married to Isabella, daughter of the late John Sutherland, who survives him together with two daughters and three sons, Mrs. A. G. Elmslie of Galt and Miss Wallace, Robert S. Wallace of Hamilton, Rev. W. G. Wallace of Bloor St. Presbyterian church, Toronto and Mr. A. B. Wallace of Buffalo. Of his surviving brothers and sisters, there are only one of the former Mr. George Wallace, of Toronto and two of the latter, Mrs. A. Robertson of Guelph and Mrs. A. A. Erb of Preston. He moved to Toronto and has resided there since that time. In politics Mr. Wallace was a Conservative and like most Scotchmen was a lover of curling and was the skip of a rink which a good many years ago, was called the "Colation rink" being composed of two Grits and two Conservatives. The late John Scott and the Hon. Jas. Young the Grits and the late James McMillan and the deceased the Conservatives. He was in Galt during the last curling season and a number who were present and saw him curling spoke of how well he looked considering his age. The funeral which took place here Tuesday morning on the arrival of the 9: 30 C. P. R. train, was met by a large number of the deceased's old friends and relatives, the services being held in the Central Presbyterian church and the interment in Mount View Cemetery.
