    Born in Maryborough Township, the son of the late Charles Gowing and Mrs. Isobel Gowing of Elmira, Mr. Gowing was a life-long resident of the Glen Allan area. He was a member of the Glen Allan United Church.

    He was predeceased by his wife, the former Vera Kincade, in August, 1969, and is survived by his mother; six sons, Glen of Arthur, Keith of Wallenstein, Lyle of Kitchener, Douglas of Poole, and Neil and Wayne at home; five daughters, Mrs. Harold (Evelyn) Ellis of Moorefield, Mrs. Arthur (Doris) Woinoski and Bernice of Waterloo, Mrs. Ross (Dorothy) Jackson of Rothsay, and Lois at home; a brother, Ivan of RR 3, Listowel; three sisters, Mrs. Lorne (Laura) Stahlbaum of Floradale, Mrs. Clayton (Florence) Miller of Elmira and Mrs. Albert (Ruby) Israel of Kitchener and 13 grandchildren.

    The body will be at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until noon Wednesday when removal will be made to the church. Rev. John Toby will officiate at the service and burial will be in Elmira cemetery.

    GLEN ALLAN - Service for Mrs. Morley Gowing of Glen Allan who died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, after a lengthy illness was held today at Glen Allan United Church. Burial was in Elmira cemetery.

    She was the former Vera Irene Kincade and was born in Maryborough Township Nov. 8, 1915, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kincade. She was a member of the Glen Allan United Church and the present president of the United Church Women.

    ELMIRA -
    Charles H. Gowing, 79, of 45 Centre St., Elmira, died today at his residence. Born in Maryborough township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Gowing. He retired from farming in 1947 and had been a resident of Elmira since 1949.

    Surviving are his wife, the former Isabelle Gabel, three daughters, Mrs. Lorne (Laura) Stahlbaum and Mrs. Clayton (Florence) Miller, both of RR 1, Elmira; and Mrs. Albert (Ruby) Israel, Kitchener; two sons, Morley of Glen Allen and Ivan, RR 3, Listowel; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Calvin, Glen Allan, Edgar, Drayton and Wellington, Stratford.

    The body is at the Dreisinger funeral parlor, Elmira. Service will be conducted in the Dreisinger funeral chapel Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. H. L. Simpson officiating. Burial will be in the Elmira Cemetery.

    AGED RESIDENT PASSES AWAY
    LATE JOHN GABEL, WAS WELLKNOWN THROUGHOUT THIS DISTRICT

    The death occurred on Sunday last of another of the Old Guard of this district in the person of Mr. John Gabel of Floradale, aged eighty-eight years. The late Mr. Gabel was born in Germany at Kreiss-Alsfelt in 1836 and came to this country at the age of seventeen, settling in Wilmot township on the Huron road.

    In 1857 he married Magdalena Levagood, and they continued to reside in Waterloo County for some time, but later moved to Peel township eventually retiring to Glenallan. Six years ago they moved to Floradale.

    The late Mr. Gabel is survived by his wife and five children as follows: Mary Ann (Mrs. Huss) Lavina, Edward, Isabella, and Alexander.
    The funeral taken place on Sunday next to St. James Lutheran Church where services will be held by Rev. Mr. Strempfer assisted by Rev. Zarnke. Burial will take place in the Elmira Union Cemetery.

    Death Caused By Fall In Kitchen

    Jar Proves Fatal to Mrs. Magdalena Gabel, Age 91 Years, Of Floradale

    Floradale, August 12 - A fall on the kitchen floor caused the death of one of Floradale's oldest residents last night, in the person of Magdalena Levagood, widow of John Gabel aged 91 years.

    Dr. J.W. McQuibban of Elmira, who was summoned immediately after the accident, stated that the fall jarred Mrs. Gabel's heart and caused her death. The late Mrs. Gabel was born near New Dundee on December 7, 1840, the second youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George C. Levagood. On October 27, 1857, she married John Gabel and for 40 year resided on a farm near New Dundee, later moving to Glenallan where they farmed for 21 years. Some 13 years ago they purchased the Peter Bowman farm near this village and it was there here [sic] death occurred. She was predeceased by her husband five years ago and seven children also predeceased her. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Verner Huss, Petersburg, Miss Lavina Gabel at home; Edward Gabel of Battlebend, Alta., Mrs. Charles Gowing of Glenallan and Alex Gabel of Hamilton. Twenty-two grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren also survive.
