    Notes:

Death of Rev. Thomas Adams - This well-known, kindly, Christian man passed to his rest, in Galt, on Friday last. The deceased was very widely known throughout Ontario, and, we believe, was universally respected for the many excellent traits of his character, and for the zeal with which he worked in the service of the great Master. Deceased was born in Coldford, Gloucester, England, in 1807. In his eighteenth year he became a convert and immediately joined with the Primitive Methodist denomination. At 19 he preached associated with the Primitive Methodist Church, filled various pulpits in England, Ireland and Wales for over 14 years. Then about 1843 he emigrated to Canada, and received an appointment in the old Niagara Circuit. A most useful man, he received appointments to almost every church of his denomination in Ontario, and invariable secured the esteem and affection of his congregations. Thoroughly honest in his convictions, desirous of doing what good laid in his power, his addresses in the pulpit were characterized by vigor, sympathy, and earnestness which won upon his hearers. Many years ago he was appointed to the church in Galt, and it was during his first residence amongst us that his wife - who had been the sharer of much of the hardships of his early Canadian life - died, her remains being interred in Trinity Church Cemetery. After leaving Galt, at the expiry of the term of his appointment, the deceased gentleman revoked, we believe, into the neighborhood of Chatham, were he married the lady whose death we recorded but a few months ago. His labors and age entitled him to superannuation, and on retiring from the active ministry, he decided on settling permanently in Galt. After his retirement he was as active as ever in the discharge of Christian duties, and was eve ready to aid and assist those whom he found in trouble. His end was that of a well spent life. He passed quietly and peacefully away, relying on the mercy of the God whose teachings he had tried to spread, for the benefit of man in the world.

The deceased was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery on Monday last, the pall-bearers being Messrs. Alex Cranston, James Woods, John Habbick, Thomas Rutherford, Wm. Sipes and John Edgar, all old friends and steady workers with him while in life. The services at the house were conducted by Rev. Mr. Bee, of Toronto, Revs. Boyd and Reid, of Brampton, and Rev. J.K. Smith, of Galt. At Trinity Church Canon Hincks red the beautiful service of the church.
