Jacob Wildfong, "was born in 1753. After he had attained the age of twenty years he was married to Susannah Ruth. During the latter part of the last century when the question of slavery was brought up and sanctioned by the state government, these Moravians were strenuously opposed to the measure, so much so that numbers of them left the state (North Carolina) and moved to Pennsylvania, "the Quaker State", while others left some years later after the independence of the thirteen colonies was declared. Among the latter number was old Jacob Wildfong, the pioneer settler (of that name) in this country. About the year 1796 he, with his wife and family of three or four children, moved north to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he resided for six years, then he, in company with others, moved to Canada in 1802 and settled in Waterloo County, Ontario, on the west band of the Grand River a little below the Toll Bridge, on the farm now owned by Ferdinand Miller. Here he resided until his son, Jonas, took possession of the farm then he moved a little west of what is now Strasburg where he died probably as early as 1830. His family consisted of seven children"
