    BAUMAN, Catherine Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, in her 101st year, at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre. Catherine was born November 4, 1913 in Kitchener. Loving mother of Sharon (Arthur) Reimer and Mary-Lynn (Philip) Dedels. Dear grandmother of Laurie (Joel) Lafleur and Eric Dedels; great- grandmother of Renee and Ethan Lafleur. Predeceased by her loving husband Roy, son-in-law Henry Dyck, granddaughter Shelley Dyck, parents, brothers and sisters. Friends are invited to share memories of Catherine with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 1 p.m. until the service time of 2 p.m. which will be held in the chapel of the funeral home.     ORTON S. DEVITT

    Orton S. Devitt, 74 of Kitchener, died Friday at K-W Hospital after a brief illness. He was a former employee of the Canadian Blower and Forge Company.

    Mr. Devitt was born April 26, 1883, in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aaron K. Devitt. He had lived in Kitchener for the past 65 years.

    His wife, the former Elizabath R. Ruppel, predeceased him. Surviving are two sons, Carl of Kitchener and Victor of Brantford; four daughters Miss Myrtle Devitt and Miss Mary Devitt, both of Kitchener, Mrs. Roy G (Catherine) Bauman of Waterloo and Mrs. David (Erma) Hoffer of Elmira; two sisters, Mrs. John Farr of Thistletown and Mrs. Armintha Brown of Winnipeg; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    The body rested at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. E. E. Hallman, pastor of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church, Waterloo, officiating. Burial was in Waterloo Mount Hope Cemetery.

    Sudden Death of Mrs. O. Devitt At K-W Hospital

    Many friends will learn with regret of the sudden passing of Rosetta Ruppel, wife of Mr. Orton Devitt and daughter or Mr. and Mrs. Justus Ruppel, Park Street, which took place at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital on Tuesday morning, aged 38 years.
    The deceased was ill only a few days and her death was quite unexpected. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.

    The late Mrs. Devitt was married 14 years ago to Mr. Orton Devitt and they resided at 29 Peter Street, Kitchener. There are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother, a sorrowing husband, and seven children, five daughters and two sons, the oldest of whom is thirteen years; also her parents, three sisters and two brothers. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sorrow.

    Following a lengthy illness, Justus W. Ruppel, 43 Allan St. West. Waterloo, died today at his residence. He was 94.

    Mr. Ruppel was born in Germany Aug. 31, 1857, and came to Canada as an infant. He was a furniture worker Mr. Ruppel was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church, Waterloo. His wife, the former Catherine Hertzberger, predeceased him.

    Surviving are two sons, Emerson and Gordon, Kitchener; two daughters, Miss Minerva Ruppel, at home; and Mrs. Bert (Stella) Turner, Waterloo. Fourteen grandchildren, 23 great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren also survive,

    The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until Friday at 4 p.m. then at the residence for funeral Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. G. F. Barthel will officate and interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo.

    MRS. JUSTUS W. RUPPEL

    Catherine, wife of Justus W. Ruppel, 43 Allan street. Waterloo. passed away Sunday afternoon at her residence in her 78th year. Deceased, born in Mannheim, had been alling for some time. She attended Emmanuel Evangelical church.

    The husband survives with two sons and two daughters, four great grandchildren and five grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at Emmanuel church at 2.30. Interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. H. A. Kellerman will officiate.

    Dennis Devitt, "the fourth son of his father, Dennis, was born in New Jersey, August 18th, 1813. After his mother returning to New York State, his father had him placed with David Shantz who resided near Berlin, on the farm now possessed by David Shuh. Here he was raised and on May 2nd, 1837, he was married to Magdalena Keller who was born January 27th, 1819. After his marriage he resided for over a year with Mr. and Mrs. David Shantz, his foster-parents. In 1838 they moved on their farm, four miles west of Berlin, on the Petersburg Road, where they resided for thirty-six years. Then he sold the farm to the late Samuel S. Shantz and moved to Berlin where his widow still resides. He died June 1st, 1880. They were blessed with a family of thirteen children, all of whom became of age"

On May 2nd, 1837, she was married to Dennis Devitt who was raised by old David Shantz who lived on lot No. 1, German Company's Tract, about one mile south-east of Berlin. After their marriage they resided about eighteen months with old David Shantz, then they moved on their farm four miles west of Berlin, on the Petersburg Road, where they resided 36 years. He was born August 18th, 1813, and died July 1st, 1880. She is still hale and hearty and resides in Berlin in company with her youngest daughter who is unmarried. They had a family of thirteen children, all of whom arrived at maturity."

Soon after their marriage they moved on a farm about a mile west of the Manheim school house. The farm is now possessed by Mr. Jacob S. Hallman, reeve of Wilmot. The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock to the Zion Evangelical Church and from thence to the Waterloo cemetery..
