    C. F. Ottman.

This well known citizen is a son of the late Chas. Ottman, who was among the first of the pioneers of Wellesley village. The subject of this sketch was born here in 1855 He has lived here all his life and about twenty- one years ago he opened a harness shop and has continued it with success up to the present time and the present outlook of his patronage foreshadows a prosperous future. He was married in 1878 to Elizabeth, daughter of Geo. Ziegler. They have a family of nine children. Charles, the eldest son, is employed in his father's shop. Mr.Ottman is a born musician and for a number of years has been leader of the Wellesley Band, one of the leading musical organizations in the county. It has about fifteen members and despite the fact that they have not been in active practice for the past two years they are still capable of producing music of which the citizens may well be proud. Mr. Ottman is leader of the choir of the Lutheran church, Missouri Synod. The latter position he has held for twenty years. The band has been reorganized this season and the members will undoubtedly give a good account of themselves during the season of fairs and festivities.

Over 60 Years In Business; Retires

    C. F. Ottmann, 82, Has Eventful Career in Harness Business. Noted Bandsman.

WELLESLEY, April 15. - Charles F. Ottmann, aged 82, Wellesley's oldest, business man and for fifty years veteran leader and member of the village band, has decided to retire from active business after sixty years. In future the business will be conducted by his son, Louis Ottmann. While taking a keen interest in both municipal, provincial and federal politics, Mr. Ottmann never sought public office. For 35 years he has been public school trustee and member of the Lutheran church board. He will continue work at his bench occasionally.

Coming to Wellesley in 1847 with his parents, Bavarian pioneers, Mr. Ottmann, when a young man of 22, opened a harness shop, one of three in the village, and over a long period of years was favored with a liberal patronage from farmers and villagers in the district. In the nineties business was brisk and merchants, millers and hotels flourished.

Band music is Mr. Ottman's hobby and he has been leader of a fine band for decades with a membership of 22, ten of whom are relatives, including two sons, a son-in-law and two daughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Ottman have twelve children, in addition to an adopted son, nine of whom are living.
