Sadly missed by his father. Bert Schedewitz and his wife Marian of Simcoe. Loving father of Stephanie Krotz of Florida and Rebecca Bartlett. Dear brother of Rossand his wife Sylvia of Sharon and Mark and his wife Brenda of Waterloo. Grandfather of Brittany and Jacob. Stewart will also he remembered by aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by his little friend at Tim Horton's. Zach Tileman. Predeceased by his mother. Stewart was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch No. 530. the Waterloo Chippers. the Central Ontario Funeral Directors Association and a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Cambridge. He was a dedicated funeral director for many years and worked at Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel where he dedicated his life to families in our community.     SCHEDEWITZ, Hilbert "Bert" - Peacefully, on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe. Bert Schedewitz, age 88 years of Simcoe, formerly of Kitchener. Beloved husband of Marion (Wood) Schedewitz. Dear father of Ross and Sylvia of Sharon, Mark and Brenda of Waterloo, Ross and Kathy Wood of Simcoe. Lovingly remembered by his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Brother of Earl and Gwen of Kitchener and fondly remembered by three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edna Schedewitz; his son, Stewart (2003) and his brother, Oscar (1960). Bert was a veteran of the Second World War. A Memorial Service for family and friends to celebrate Bert's life will be held at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Simcoe, on Saturday, June 21st at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ron Mohr officiating. There will be no funeral home visitation. A family interment has taken place in Elmira Union Cemetery.     Henry Schedewitz

    The sudden death of Henry Schedewitz, R.R. 4, Elmira, occurred shortly before noon Wednesday as the result of a stroke the same morning. News of his death came as a shock to many Elmira and district residents, as Mr. Schedewitz had been in good health previous to Wednesday.

    He was born on the farm where he resided at death on Sept. 23, 1889, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schedewitz. He was married in 1919 to Edna Hartwig, who survives with three sons, Hilbert, Oscar and Earl.

    Three brothers, John, who resides on the same farm, William of Elmira and Albert of Hesson, and one sister, Mrs. Oscar Christman, R.R. 4, Elmira, also survive.

    The funeral will be held from his late residence on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., with English service at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Elmira, at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be made at the Elmira cemetery.

    WILLIAM H. SCHANER

    Suffering a heart attack about three weeks ago, William H. Schaner, 60, prominent St. Jacobs coal dealer, passed away at this home there on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 29. Born at Rockford, Mich., he was a son of Mrs. Katherine Schaner of Heidelberg and the late John H. Schaner.

    He was married to Emma Giese of Breslau thirty-five years ago. Following his marriage, he returned to South Dakota, where he farmed for five years. He then returned to Canada where he purchased a farm at Hawkesville. Twelve years later he retired and moved with his family to St. Jacobs where he purchased a coal and feed business which he conducted for the past 14 years. He was a member of St. James' Lutheran church, St. Jacobs.

    Surviving are his aged mother, at Heidelberg, his wife and six daughters, Mrs. Warren Smith of St. Jacobs, Mrs. George Issler of Kitchener, Mrs. Walter Weigel of Elmira, Mrs. Lorne Kenesky of St. Jacobs and Hazel and Violet at home; three sons, Walter of St. Jacobs and Arthur and Harold at home, and one grandchild, Grace Alma Weigel of Elmira. A son, Herman, predeceased him in infancy, and a sister, Mrs. Wm. Vogel, about 14 years ago.

    The funeral was held on Saturday with a private service at the home at 2 pm and a public service at 2: 30 pm at St. James' Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs. Interment was made at the Heidelberg cemetery.

    ARRESTED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT

    Detective Klippert Monday afternoon arrested Joseph Meyer, a farm hand in the employ of Mr John Koehler, Wilmot Tp. The charge on which Meyer was arrested was one of assault committed upon fourteen year old girl, by the name of Emma Giese. The prisoner had a hearing before the Police Magistrate Tuesday afternoon and was dismissed.

    MRS. EMMA SCHANER - A resident of St. Jacobs for 37 years, Mrs. Emma Schaner, 73, died Thursday, August 27, in K-W Hospital after a lengthy illness.

    Born in Breslau, Oct. 18, 1885, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Giese.

    On Nov. 20, 1926, she was married to William Schaner, who died in January, 1941.

    She was a member of St. Jacobs, and was a charter member of the United Lutheran Church Woman.

    Survivors include two sons, Arthur of St. Jacobs, Harold of Elmira; six daughters, Mrs. Warren (Isabel) Smith, Mrs. Oliver (Hazel) Lackner and Mrs. Lorne (Helen) Renesky of St. Jacobs, Mrs. Walter (Alma) Weigel of Elmira, Mrs. Hilbert (violet) Schedewitz of Waterloo, Mrs. George (Edith) Issler of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. William Zinn of St. Thomas, Mrs. Mary Schaefer of Preston, and 15 grandchildren. Two son, three sisters and one brother predeceased her.

    The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, until Saturday at 11 am when removal was made to the church for the funeral at 3:30 o'clock. The Rev. Adolph Kappes officiated. Burial was in Heidelberg Lutheran Cemetery.

    PASSED AWAY LAST SUNDAY

    MR. JOHN SCHEDEWITZ HAD RESIDED AT WATERLOO, HEIDELBERG AND ST. JACOBS

    The death of another old resident took place on Sunday last, May 7th, in the person of John Schedewitz, who has been living in this section for upwards of forty three years.

    The late Mr. Schedewitz was born on October 13th, 1843 in Germany, and thus had reached the age of 78 years, 6 months and 24 days, when he was called to his reward.

    Coming to Canada at the age of ten years, with his parents, the family settled near Waterloo. From there they moved to Heidelberg and later to near St. Jacobs. On October 22, 1867, he to Barbara Lackenbauer and removed to the farm now owned by Elias W. Weber, at Yatton. Forty three years ago, they took possession of the old homestead, three miles west of Elmira, where he lived until his death.

    Mr. Schedewitz had been ailing for sometime and twelve weeks ago his condition became serious, resulting in his death on Sunday.

    He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two daughters, Mrs. O. Christman, Clara, and Mrs. Geo. Geisel, Elizabeth, (a third daughter Margaret, Mrs. Albert Stroh having died six years ago). Also surviving are his sons, Albert and William of Elmira, Simon at Yatton and John and Henry on the old homestead. Two sons died in infancy.

    The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30 p.m. from his home near Yatton to St Pauls' Lutheran Church, Elmira, Rev. Gallmeier officiating, with burial at the Union Cemetery.

    The sympathy of the community is extended to the sorrowing family in their loss.

    Barbara Lackenbauer Called by Death in 79th Year; Funeral Held Tuesday; Six Children Survive


    After an illness of some duration the death occurred on Saturday, April the seventeenth, at her home three miles west of Elmira of Barbara Lackenbauer, widow of the late John Schedewitz. The deceased was born half a mile west of Elmira on September 28, 1847. She was married to John Schedwitz on October 22, 1868. For several years they lived on the farm occupied at present by Mr. Dan Cressman. Forty-six years ago they moved to the farm three miles west of Elmira where she resided until her death. Her health up to nine weeks ago was good but owing to heart trouble, she was confined to her bed. Of a family of ten children six are now living, five sons and a daughter. They are Simon L., Yatton; John and Henry on the old homestead; Albert and William of Elmira and Clara (Mrs. Oscar Christman) near Elmira. There are also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her husband predeceased her four years ago. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon. A service was held at the house at 1: 30 from thence to St. Paul`s Lutheran Church where Rev. Orsen of Kitchener conducted the services.

    MRS. JOHN HARTWIG

    Mrs. John Hartwig died on Monday afternoon, Feb. 15th, 1943, at her home 32 Arthur Street north.

    In ailing health for the past year her condition became serious during the past week.
    She was born in Woolwich Township on August 13, 1874, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dubrick.

    She was married in St. Paul's church, Elmira, Jan. 9th, 1894 to John Hartwig, who survives. She was a member of St. Paul's church and also a member of the Ladies' Aid Society of that congregation.

    Surviving are her husband, one son Clayton of Stratford; one daughter, Mrs. E. Schedewitz; one daughter predeceased her in infancy. Two sisters, (Christian), Mrs. Charles Terry, of Rochester, N.Y., and (Clara), Mrs. Jos. Boegel of Waterloo. Also five brothers, Herman and John of Kitchener; Menno of Waterloo; Charles of Hagersville; David of Rochester, N.Y. There are seven grandchildren. One brother Edward of Kitchener predeceased her.
    The funeral will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock from the residence of her daughter Mrs. Schedewitz with services at St. Paul's church, and burial in Elmira cemetery. Rev. F. Malinsky officiating.

    Wellesley, Aug 15 - John S. Koehler, retired farmer, died suddenly yesterday at the home of his son, Norman Koehler, Berlet's Corner. He was born Dec 10, 1866 and spent his life on the farm now occupied by his son. Deceased was a member of St. Paul's Canada Lutheran Church at Wellesley. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Schmidt, two sons, Astor J. and Norman at Berlet's Corner and four daughters, Clara, Mrs. Alonzo Hahn of Heidelberg; Frieda, Mrs. Andrew Lindner, of North Easthope; Eleanor, Mrs. John Boehm, of Berlet's Corner and Emma, Mrs. William Schaner, of Heidelberg. Twenty-nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive him. The funeral will be held Sunday with a short service at the residence at 2 pm, followed by a memorial service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellesley, at 2: 45. Rev. Albert Lotz will conduct the services. Burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery. The body is resting at the Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley, until 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon when removal will be made to the residence at Berlet's Corner.
