    Notes:

At his home on Cooper St. in Hespeler, early Tuesday morning, 6th April 1915, a most estimable and highly honoured citizen, leaving still another gap in the ranks of Hespeler's grand old men. He was in his 88th year. He was born in Easen Mandit, Northamptonshire, England and came to Canada shortly after his marriage to Zylpha Johnson, some sixty-five years ago. He settled in Wellesley Township and in 1869 came to this district, living on the Jamieson farm for six years, before removing to Puslinch Township, where he resided until he retired from active life and took up his residence in Hespeler about thirteen years ago. He was a sturdy Englishman of the old school and enjoyed splendid health until a few months before his death, when he contracted pneumonia. This was his first illness and the first time he had ever taken medicine. He was a kindly, courtly gentleman and was admired and respected wherever known. He was a life-long Conservative and fought the battles of the party for many years in Puslinch, when Conservatives were woefully in the minority. His wife predeceased him five years ago. He leaves four sons and two daughters, Joseph of Saskatoon; Jacob of Puslinch; John of Fisher's Mills; William of Hespeler; Mrs. Hugh Dunbar of Galt; and Mrs. W. P. Burtch of Palermo. The funeral was held from his residence on Thursday at 2: 30 and was very largely attended, many friends gathering to pay their last tribute to the memory of this grand old man. The cortege to Hespeler Cemetery for interment was one of the largest seen here in recent years. Services were conducted by Rev. J. J. Liddy. Pallbearers: John, Jacob and William Cooper; Hugh Dunbar, William Burtch and Roy Cooper.

The last sad rites over the body of Mrs. Cooper, wife of Thomas Cooper, were observed at 2 on Mon. , Nov. 8. One of Hespeler's best known and most respected citizens, she died on Saturday morning, at 8, November 6, 1909. Mrs. Cooper, who was over 80 years of age, had been in ill health for some time, gradually sinking until she passed peacefully away. Service at her residence on Cooper St. in Hespeler was conducted by Rev. Jasper Wilson, after which the funeral cortege proceeded to Hespeler Cemetery, where interment took place. Many friends followed her body to her last resting place, as a last act of respect to one whom they loved. Her loving nature and gentle character endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. Mrs. Cooper was born in 1821 at Yeardly, near Hastings, Northhamptonshire, England and came to this country in 1851, with her husband and three children. The family settled at Queen's Bush in the county of Wellesley but lived in Berlin for two years, before taking up a farm. Forty years ago, the family took up residence on the old Seigle farm near Hespeler but after living there for six years, they moved to Puslinch, where the parental home remained until seven years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Cooper came to live in Hespeler. Here the happy couple celebrated their diamond wedding in 1908.
