LICHTI, Kenneth W. Kenneth Wray Lichti, 81, of Tavistock passed away peacefully with family by his side at Stratford General Hospital on Friday, November 25, 2016. He was born in Waterloo County on June 2, 1935 a son of the late John and Barbara (Bender) Lichti. Ken has owned and operated Ken's Barber Shop in Tavistock for 41 years; was a member of Tavistock Men's Club for over 50 years and was a Past President of the club; he had served as a member of the Council of East Zorra-Tavistock from 1974- 1980; was an authorized dealer for Electrolux Vacuums (AERUS) for 40 years; was involved in activities such as driving for the Canadian Cancer Society, delivering Meals on Wheels, floral delivery as well as being an active member of Tavistock Mennonite Church. Ken is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Ferne Gerber whom he married on October 13, 1956; six children, Bradley and wife Christine Lichti of Fullarton, Brian Lichti of Stratford, Connie and husband George Werner of Wilmot Centre, Randall and wife Sherri Lichti of Tavistock (Sebastopol), Philip Lichti of Kingston, Stephen Lichti of Mitchell; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elroy Lichti of New Hamburg, Lincoln and wife Maryann Lichti of Tavistock; one sister, Leona Bender of New Hamburg; two sisters-in-law, Emmalien Lichti and Geneva Lichti, both of Tavistock; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Anna Gerber of Wellesley along with several nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by one grandson, Jay (in infancy), three brothers, Elmon Lichti, Stanley Lichti, Mervin Lichti; one sister, Helena Lichti (in infancy); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Loretta Lichti, Irma Lichti, Mervin Bender, Elsie and Harold Lichti. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jim Brown will officiate. Interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th Line. Reception following.

TAVISTOCK-John E. Lichti, 225 Hope St. E., died Friday at Stratford Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 72.

Born May 5, 1896, in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lichti and farmed in East Zorra Township for many years before coming to Tavistock in 1960. Mr. Lichti was a member of the 16^th Line East Zorra Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Bender whom he married Jan. 24, 1918 in East Zorra Township; six sons, Elmon, Stanley, Lincoln and Mervin, all of East Zorra, Elroy of New Hamburg, and Kenneth of Tavistock; one daughter, Mrs. Mervin (Leona) Bender, New Hamburg; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Wagler of Wellesley, Mrs. Nick (Leah) Roth, New Hamburg, Mrs. Joseph (Lydia) Roth of Tavistock, Mrs. Serenus (Lena) Kipfer of Baden and Mrs. Ezra (Katie) Kropf, East Zorra; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by one daughter and two brothers.

The body will be at the Robert Krug Funeral Home, Tavistock until noon Monday when removal will be made to the East Zorra Mennonite Church 16^th Line where Rev. Newton Gingrich will conduct a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

LICHTY. - BARBARA (ERB) Lichty was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., July 6, 1861; died on Dec. 13, 1932; aged 71 y. 5 m. 7 d. Death occurred rather suddenly. She was on a visit to her daughter (Mrs. Cyranius Kipfer at Waterloo) and while there but a few hours was stricken with paralysis. After an illness of three days, she fell asleep in Jesus to awake in the great resurrection morning. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Amish Mennonite Church, of which she was a faithful member till God saw fit to call her home. On March 30, 1879, she was united in holy marriage to Bro. Joseph F. Lichty. She was always concerned about her children, and tried to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She leaves a sorrowing husband, 2 sons (Joseph E. and John E.), 6 daughters (Mrs. J. S. Wagler, Mrs. N. S. Roth, Mrs. Amos Kipfer, Mrs. J. S. Roth, Mrs. Cyranius Kipfer, and Mrs. Ezra Kropf), 1 brother (John Sterie), 1 sister (Mrs. Charles Alexandra), 59 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral was held Dec. 16 from her late home near Wellesley, Ont., with services at the St. Agatha A. M. Church and cemetery, conducted by the brethren, Christian Gascho and Peter Boshart, of the same church.

Bender, Jacob, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bender, was born Jan. 9, 1873; passed away following a short illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Lichti, East Zorra, Ont.; aged 83y. 11m. 14 d. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was a member of the East Zorra A. M. Church until death. On Dec. 8, 1895, he married Magdalena Ramsyer, who preceded him in death in November, 1947. To this union were born 5 sons and 4 daughters. One son, Elgin, preceded him in death. Surviving are 8 children (Milton, Clarence, N. Bender.-John H., eldest son of Christian and Catherine (Honderich) Bender, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Aug. 5, 1849; died April 27, 1934; aged 84 y. 8 m. 22 d. He was a member of the A. M. Church from his youth. In January, 1872, he was married to Barbara Brenneman of Perth Co., Ont. This union was blessed with 3 children (Jacob B. Bender and Lydia at home, and Mattie-wife of Christ R. Iutzi), all of East Zorra. His wife preceded him in death more than two years. He leaves 1 son, 2 daughters, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters. After his marriage in 1872, he had his home on the 16 line of East Zorra Township, and in all these years he never missed being home a night, except two years ago when he made a trip to Clarence Center, N. Y., for a few days. Services were held at the home by Jacob R. Bender, and at the church by D. D. Lebold, Chris Schultz, and D. S. Jutzi. A large host of friends gathered to pay the last respects to the departed. Burial on May 1 at East Zorra A. M. Church.

Mrs. John H. Bender

There passed away at the family residence in East Zorra township on Wednesday, August 12th, Barbara Brenneman, wife of John H. Bender, in her 82nd year. She had suffered from cancer trouble during the past year. Deceased was born in South Easthope where she lived with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Brenneman, until her marriage to Mr. Bender in 1872.

She leaves besides her husband, one son, Jacob B., of East Zorra, and two daughters, Lydia at home, Mrs. Chris. Jutzi, of East Zorra, and three brothers, Joseph, David and Christian. Three sisters predeceased her. The funeral held on Friday afternoon was conducted by Rev. Mr. Kipfer. The services at the church was in charge of Bishop Daniel Jutzi, Rev. Steinman and Rev. Bender. Interment was made in the Amish-Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line.

The pallbearers were Ezra Roth, Ivan Bender, Peter Brenneman, Norman Roi, William Brenneman and Simon Roth.
