    Shantz, Stanley, son of Addison and Priscella (Devitt) Shantz, was born in Guernsey, Sask., May 23, 1914; died at the K-W Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Mar. 1, 1990; aged 75. He was married to Fern Burkhart, who died in 1979. On Apr. 6, 1985, he was married to Kathryn Yoder, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Calvin, Nelson, and Melvin), one daughter (Elinor Gingerich), 6 grandchildren, and 2 brothers (Arnold and Lyle). He was ordained to the ministry and served the following congregations: Sharon, Holyrood, Baden-Geiger, and First Mennonite in Vineland. He also served as interim pastor for a number of congregations. He was a member of Wilmot Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Mar. 3, in charge of Jean Goulet; spring interment in the church cemetery.

    Shantz, Addison Cressman, son of Amos M. and Esther (Cressman) Shantz, was born Aug. 22, 1878; passed away at Watrous, Sask., April 15, 1958; aged 79 y. 7 m. 24 d. He moved to Manitoba as a young man and took up farming. In 1912, he was united in marriage to Priscilla Devitt of Kitchener, Ont. As a young man he was baptized into the fellowship of the Methodist Church, later transferring his membership to the United Church. He took an active interest in the welfare of the Mennonite Church in his community. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, 8 grandchildren, and 5 sisters (Mrs. Urias Snider, Kitchener, Ont.; Mrs. Herb Shantz, Waterloo, Ont.; Magdalina, Barbara, and Elminda Shantz, Kitchener, Ont.). An infant sister (Sylvia) and 4 brothers (Josiah, Jeremiah, Jonathan, and Samuel) preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the United Church, Watrous, Sask., April 18, in charge of the local pastor and at the Sharon Mennonite Church in charge of J. B. Stauffer and Paul Schroeder. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    Mrs. Addison Shantz

    WATROUS, Sask., Mrs. Addison C. Shantz of Watrous, died at hospital here, Tuesday. She was 88. Born in Mannheim, Ont., she was the former Priscilla Devitt. a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Devitt. She was a member of the United Church in Watrous. Surviving are three sons. Rev. Stanley of Edmonton and Arnold and Lyle of Guernsey, Sask. She was predeceased by her husband in 1958 and by a brother, Ephraim, of Kitchener. A service will be held in the Sharon Mennonite Church, near Guernsey, Saturday, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    BURKHART - Clarence Leslie He was born at Elmira, Ont., March 16, 1895, the son of the late Enoch and Hannah (Eby) Burkhart; died of leukemia at the family home near Guernsey, Sask., Sept. 28, 1952; aged 57 y. 6 m. 12 d. He came to Saskatchewan in 1917 and started farming in the Guernsey district. On Feb. 18, 1920, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Snider, who survives. Also surviving are 9 children (Fern-Mrs. Stanley Shantz, Greta-Mrs. Ralph Hawes, Florence, Kenneth, Merle, Mary, Ray, Beatrice, and Berna), 3 grandchildren, 2 sisters (Mrs. Abner Musselman, Elmira, Ont.; and Mrs. Mervin Shantz, Alma, Ont.), and 4 brothers (Lloyd, Emerson, and Gordon, Kitchener, Ont.; and Irvin, Goshen, Ind.) One son (Stanley) preceded him in death in infancy. He took and active interest in many local affairs and will be greatly missed by the community. Funeral services was held Oct. 2 at the Sharon Mennonite Church, Guernsey, Sask., of which he was a member. The services were in charge of J.B. Stauffer of Tofield, Alta., assisted by Howard Snider and Paul Schroeder. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Shantz. - Esther (Cressman) Shantz was born at New Dundee, Ont., Jan. 20, 1848; died at her home near Petersburg, Ont., Sept. 4, 1919 ; aged 71 y. 7 m. 16 d. She was united in marriage to Amos M. Shantz. To this union were born 3 sons and 6 daughters. One daughter preceded her to the spirit world. She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, 5 daughters, 14 grandchildren, 1 sister and 3 brothers. She was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. Funeral services were conducted at the Latschar Church by Bro. Jonas Snider. Text, Phil. 2: 21.

    The death occurred nt Hamilton Friday afternoon at 12: 30 o'clock of Caroline Schweitzer, beloved wife of Dennis K. Devitt, in her 81st year. The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the family residence, Mannheim; to Latchar's Mennonite church for service and cemetery for interment,

    Large Funeral

    The funeral of the late Caroline beloved wife Schweitzer beloved wife of Mr. Dennis K. Devitt, who was buried on Saturday afternoon last, was largely attended. Mrs. Devitt who was in her 81st year was laid away in Latchars Mennonite cemetery. She died in Hamilton in the early morning of Friday, August 14th, the body being taken to their home here for burial. The service at the house was conducted by the Rev. Brubacher of New Dundee while the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Jacob Detweiller of Kitchener. He read from 1 Cor.: 15. He delivered a most impressive and heart searching discourse to a church filled to capacity. Deniss her aged part ner in life, E. J. and Mrs. Devitt and a host of relatives and friends have the sympathy of the whole neighborhood.


    Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Devitt and daughter Mrs. Baker from Novar, Muskoka, attended the funeral of the former's mother.

    Mr. Moses Devitt and Mrs. Simon feist brother and sister of Dennis .evitt attended the funeral on Sunday.

    Died Suddenly - Many friends were sorry to learn of the sudden death of Joshua Snider brother of Messrs. Reuben and Paul Snider of Elmira who passed away near West Montrose Wednesday, Aug. 18. sorrowing wife and six children survive to mourn the loss of loving husband and father.

    Snider. --- Lydia Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Clemens was born Jan. 22, 1860; died May 5, 1950; aged 90 y. 3 m. 13 d. Her death, which followed a lingering illness which she bore very patiently, occurred at the home of her daughter (Mrs. Weston Bowman), near Kitchener, Ont., where she had made her home the last years. On March 9, 1879, she was married to Joshua Snider, of Elmira, Ont., who predeceased her. Surviving are 11 children (Emmanuel, Blackie, Alta.; Abraham, Guernsey, Sask.; Clayton, West Montrose, Ont.; Clemens, Guernsey, Sask.; Cyrenius, Kitchener, Ont.; Emma-Mrs. Edwin Snider, Waterloo, Ont.; Lydia Ann-Mrs. Ira Gingrich, Guernsey, Sask.; Elizabeth-Mrs. Weston Bowman, Centreville, Ont.; Mary-Mrs. Clarence Burkhardt, Guernsey, Sask.; Minerva, Stratford, Ont.; Angeline-Mrs. William Sommers, West Montrose, Ont.). She united with the Mennonite Church in her youth and remained a faithful member until death. She was a kind and loving mother. Most of her life was spent on a farm near West Montrose, Ont. Funeral services were held May 7 at the Elmira Mennonite Church. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Oliver D. Snider and Howard S. Bauman officiated.

    MRS. LYDIA JANE SNIDER

    Mrs. Lydia Jane Snider, 90, died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Weston Bowman, Centreville.

    She was the widow of Joshua Snider, who died 24 years ago. She was the last surviving member of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Clements, Bleinheim.

    Mrs. Snider was born near Hespeler and lived in West Montrose before moving to Centreville.

    She is survived by five sons and six daughters; Emmanuel, Blackie, Sask.; Clemens and Abraham, Guernsey, Sask.; Clayton, West Montrose; Cyrenous, Kitchener; Mrs. Edwin Snider, Lexington; Mrs. Ira Gingrich, Mrs. Clarence Burkhardt, Guernsey, Sask.: Mrs. Elizabeth Bowman, Centreville; Miss Minerva Snider, Stratford: Mrs. William Somer, West Montrose. One son predeceased her.

    Funeral was held Sunday, 2:30 p.m., DST. at the Elmira Mennonite Church, with burial in the Elmira Mennonite Cemetery. Rev. O. D. Snider officiated.
