    IRENE SHANTZ 1925 - 2009 Irene died peacefully at Lisaard House in Cambridge on Thursday, November 19, 2009. She was 84. Loved mother of Bob and his wife Alison Smiley of Toronto, Jane Humphries of Waterloo and Steven of Phoenix, Arizona. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Cindy, Sarah and her partner Ingvar, Nicholas and his partner Rachel and Vanessa. Irene was predeceased by her husband Armand in February 1989. She was much appreciated by her large family of 14 brothers and sisters. She worked as a cook at Angie's Kitchen, Waterloo, was the owner of the Pennsylvania Kitchen restaurant in Kitchener and was the banquet chef at the Conestogo Inn for many years until her retirement. Family and friends were the fortunate recipients of her excellent cooking. Irene loved the sunshine. With her sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Ron Kelterborn, she lived most of each winter of her retirement in Florida. She and Wilma cherished their long walks on the beach together. Her family wants to thank the staff at Lisaard House for the thoughtful and loving care they gave Irene. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 2 pm with Rev. David Malina officiating. Cremation has taken place. Following the service, friends and relatives are invited to the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. Condolences for the family or donations to Lisaard House would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be arranged through the funeral home, www.erbgood.com or 519.745.8445. In living memory of Irene, a donation to the Trees for Learning Program will be made by the funeral home.

    WELLESLEY-Jacob R. Lichty, 66, of Sarnia, formerly of Wellesley, died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia.

    Born in Wellesley Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lichty. He was employed in Sarnia by a construction firm for the past 11 years after his wife died in 1953. He was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church.

    Surviving are seven sons, Edward, Brantford; Earl, West Montrose; Norman, RR 2, Baden; Jacob and Allen, Sarnia; Kenneth, Calgary, and Larry, Dryden; eight daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Frieda) Gerber, Crosshill; Mrs. Armand (Irene) Shantz, Heidelberg; Mrs. Melvin (Edith) Nafziger, RR 1, Milverton; Mrs. Reginald (Marie) Gooding, Mrs. Ronald (Clara) Connelly and Helen Lichty, all of Kitchener; Mrs. Ronald (Wilma) Kelterborn, Mitchell, and Mrs. John (Emmalene) Rose, Milverton; two brothers, John and Aaron, Millbank; four sisters, Mrs. Valentine (Christina) Nafziger, Milverton; Mrs. Noah (Catherine) Albrecht, Millbank; Mrs. Daniel (Bena) Albrecht, Newton, and Mrs. Barbara Ropp, Albany, Ore.; 31 grandchildren.

    The body will be at the Further Funeral Home until Friday at 8:30 a.m. when removal will be made to Maple View Mennonite Church for service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    WELLESLEY - Mrs. Jacob Lichty, 53, North Easthope township, died Sunday night at the K-W Hospital. She was the former Mary Schmidt.
    Born Feb. 17, 1901, in Kingwood she was a daughter of the late Christian Schmidt and former Mary Lichty.

    She married Jacob. Lichty, Feb 15, 1919, in Wellesley and was a member of the Maple View Amish Mennonite Church.

    Surviving are seven sons, Edward, Earl, Allen, all of Kitchener Norman of Wellesley, Jacob of Sarnia, Kenneth and Larry, a home; eight daughters. Mrs. Lloyd (Frieda) Gerber, Crosshill; Mrs Armand (Irene) Shantz of Wellesley, Mrs. Melvin (Edith) Nafziger, of Milverton, Mrs. Reginald (Marie) Goulding and Clara, both of Kitchener, and Helen, Wilma and Emmalene, all at home; one brother, George of Buffalo; three sisters, Mrs. Noah Wagler of Millbank, Mrs. George Albrecht of Kingwood and Mrs. Jacob Gascho of Linwood, and nine grandchildren.

    The body is resting at her home where private service will be conducted Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by public service at 10 a.m. at the Maple View Amish Mennonite Church. Bishop Samuel Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    John F. Lichty

    One of best known farmers in Wellesley Tp., John F. Lichty, died at the family home on Tuesday, June 7, after a long illness. He was aged 68 years. In religion Mr. Lichti was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church. He was born in Wilmot township on March 28, 1864 and in 1888 he was married to Miss Barbara Roth who survives him with the following family: Joseph, John, Jacob and Aaron and the Misses Phoebe, Barbara and Christina, all at home. Also brothers, Rev. Jacob F. Lichty, Wellesley, Peter F. Lichty, Wellesley. Joseph Lichty Wilmot and Christian F. Lichty, Wellesley, and his sister, Mrs. Christian Leis, Sr., of Wellesley. The funeral was held with a public service on Friday morning at the Amish Mennonite church on the third line of Wellesley. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Schultz. - Mary Schultz (born Kennel) died Dec. 20, 1906, at her home in Wellesley Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont.; aged 67 Y., 3 M., 23 D. She was twice married, first to John E. Lichty, with whom she lived in matrimony twelve years. To this union were born five children. After his death she was married to George Schultz, with whom she lived in matrimony nearly thirty-three years. To this union were born three children. She leaves, to mourn her death, a sorrowing husband and six children, two having gone before her. Sister Schultz was a consistent member of the Amish church since her youth and may well have been called a mother in Israel. She was buried Dec. 22, in the graveyard adjoining the Wellesley meeting-house; funeral services by Peter Spenler at the house, and Christian Zehr, Sr., and Nicholas Nafziger at the meeting-house.
