    Man Dies In Tree-felling Accident

A tree-felling accident a mile south of New Hamburg Saturday afternoon took the life of Donald Henry Brodrecht, 38, of Shakespeare. The accident occurred on the farm of the victim's brother- in-law, Earl Beisel, whom he was assisting to cut down a large dead elm tree.

Mr. Biesel had suggested they quit for the afternoon, but the victim felt they should cut down the last tree, which was located on the Biesel side of the line fence between his property, and that of his neighbour, Stanley Wagner. When the tree was about to fall, it Is believed Mr. Brodrecht waited to take the saw with him and was caught. It Is believed he tripped and fell while running away from the tree, which struck him lengthwise. The victim was trapped for 1 1/2 hours.

Mr. Biesel had to run to his farm house for help. When the ambulance arrived, it could not get through the snow to the scene. The stretcher was placed on a farm truck owned by Stanley Wagner, and taken to the ambulance. The victim was dead on arrival at hospital.

The late Mr. Brodrecht was born in East Zorra June 30, 1929, a son of Mrs. John Brodrecht and the late Mr. Brodrecht. He had been employed as a trucker at the Lester Wilhelm Feed Mill, Shakespeare.

Surviving besides his mother who resides at Sebastopol, are his wife, the former Eva Kennel, whom he married in 1958; a brother, Oliver, Sebastopol, and two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Idula) Biesel, RR 2, New Hamburg, and Mrs. Earl (Betty) Schramm, Haysville.

The Francis Funeral Home, Tavistock, is In charge, and the service will be held this afternoon, Feb. 14, at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford, with Rev. Herbert Gastmeier officiating. Burial will be in Avondale Cemetery.
