    Sun. Nov. 10 weather mild, sunny most of the day - got up late about8.30 - don jores, dressed - after dinner I looked over my Simplex Music lessons and arranged them in order - have not practiced anny for about a year, will begin fresh again next week - then went out on the street in front of the house, where Laura Eby and Ervin Velzing were talking -the[y] told me that Alton Ernst and two girls went in the house a minute ago - I went in was introduced to the girls, "both Miss["] - we listened to the phonograph most of the afternoon. Kenneth Dunke & another boy were here this afternoon, to see the chickens. Just before supper Altonand the girls made a record for me singing a german song "Shane ist deyungen und se comt nicht meir" - after that I also joined in and we sang the [choruses] of "Silver Bell" & ["] Put on your Old Grey Bonnet.["] After supper I took little Benney home - carried him for he was sleepy. Then we looked over my snapshots - Wess came about 8 oclock - Alt and the girls went out with me to see the rabbits etc. - then got some apples in the wash-house celler before going home - Alt is conductor on the car night shift, begins work at 10 oclock - I then milked - Wess played phonograph. It is too late to develop Wesses pictures which he took in St. Agatha today - will develop them tomorrow night - got to bed about 11 o clock.

    Mrs. Alton Ernst

    PRESTON, June 15. Mary Magdalene Steffler, wife of Alton Burton Ernst, 248 Queen St. and well-known Preston resident for the past 33 years, died in Toronto General Hospital, this morning, at the age of 63 years. Mrs. Ernst had been seriously ill for three months and confined to hospital, for the past two months. During many years of residence in the community she had formed a large circle of friends. Born in Formosa, she lived in Kitchener, prior to coming to Preston, in 1916. She was a member of St. Clement's R. C. Church, the Catholic Women's League and the Altar Society. Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Vernetta, Mildred and Laureen Ernst at home; two sons, Wilbert of Preston and Maurice of Kitchener; six grandchildren and two brothers, Joseph and George Steffler of Formosa. Two sisters, Mrs. Michael Cody of Guelph and Mrs. George Seigfried of Walkerton predeceased her. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home, where funeral will take place Saturday, with requiem high mass at St. Clement's R. C. Church, at 8 a.m. Interment will be in the Preston R.C. Cementery.

    Ernst - Louis Ernst
    passed away suddenly at the Kitchener and Waterloo Hospital, late on Friday afternoon, May 27, 1938; aged 78 y. 1 m. 16 d. He had been about in his usual health until a few hours previous to his sudden and unexpected death. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ernst and was born in Wilmot Twp., a few miles north of Baden on April 11, 1860. After his marriage to Lydia Rickert who predeceased him 20 years ago, he farmed for many years near Kitchener, retiring from active farming about 20 years ago. He has resided in this city for the past 45 years. He was a life-long member of the Mennonite Church, and interested in her welfare. He is survived by his second wife, 2 daughters (Mrs. George Uhrig and Miss Lillie Ernts both of Kitchener), 3 sons (Ephraim and Milton of Kitchener and Alton of Preston), 1 brother (Samuel Ernst of Kitchener), 2 sisters (Mrs. William Reamer of Drayton, and Mrs. William Martin of Millbank), 20 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. The services were conducted by Bros. C.F. Derstine, and O. Burkholder. Themes, "The Living Hope," and "Exaltation by God."

    ERNST. - Sister Lydia Rickert, beloved wife of Bro. Louis Ernst, was born Dec. 31, 1855; died of apoplexy at her home in Kitchener, Ont. Dec. 25, 1917; aged 61y. 11m. 24d. She was the mother of 3 sons and 2 daughters, who mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother. The funeral was held Dec. 29, 1917, at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, Ont., by the brethren, Samuel Bowman and U.K. Weber. Text, Rev. 21: 4, last clause. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.
