    Notes:

    Eben Oliver Weber was born in Woolwich Township in 1881. He attended Stratford Business College before taking a degree at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He joined his father, L.S. Weber, and his brother I.S.K. Weber, in manufacturing furniture in Waterloo.

    His entrepreneurial spirit was manifest in his ownership of the Waterloo Furniture Company, the National Furniture Company, Kitchener, and the Crown Furniture Company, Preston, as well as two farms west of the Kitchener boundary. He donated approximately seventy acres of maple sugar bush to the Westmount Golf and Country Club; the remainder was developed into the Westmount residential area.

    He served as chairman of the K-W High School Board, the K-W Hospital Board and the K-W Orphanage Board. At the time of his death, the Rev. George Barthel said, "E.O. Weber had the ability to cut through red tape and to get to the heart of a matter. Oh, that we had more like him!"

    L.S. Weber

    The death of L.S. Weber, 81, occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.F. Ott, Allen and Willow Streets, Waterloo, at four o'clock this morning after an illness of five weeks. The deceased was born at Heidelberg on March 22, 1853.

    In addition to his farming activity at Heidelberg, the deceased was widely known in the livestock trade. He subsequently moved to Kitchener and was one of the founders of the first rubber factory here, known as the Berlin Rubber Company. For some years he was associated with the late Jacob Kaufman in the rubber and timber industries. The late Mr. Weber was actively interested in the promotion and development of several local and provincial industrial enterprises.

    After the death of his wife, he spent the larger part of his time in California. Owing to advancing age, he returned to Waterloo this summer to make his home with his daughter.

    His wife, Emma Knechtel of Listowel, to whom he was married in 1875, predeceased him on January 31, 1926. His daughter, Annie (Mrs. E.L. Hooper), of Oakland, Calf., also predeceased him on Oct. 12, 1924. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C.F. Ott of Waterloo and Mrs. A.D. Gishler of Buffalo and four sons, I.S.K., of Los Angeles, E.O. of Kitchener, L.A., of Vancouver and Roy of Edmonton.

    The funeral which will be private, will be held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon from the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.F. Ott, Allen and Willow Streets, Waterloo. Rev. H.A. Kellerman is to officiate. Interment will be made in Mount Hope Cemetery.

    Christian Weber," son of Christian and Catherine (Bruck) Weber, was born in the village of Dietrichhingen, district of Zweibruecken, Rhein Bayren, Germany, March 4th, 1810. When in his nineteenth year he bid adieu to his fatherland and emigrated to America. After arriving at New York in safety he was obliged to work for some time in order to raise sufficient means to defray his expenses across the ocean. In a few years he had, by diligent labor, saved so much from his earnings that he was able to pay the expenses of bringing his parents and others of the family to this country. Some time during the year 1833 or 1834 he, together with his parents and others, moved to Canada and settled near Wilmot Centre, Waterloo County, Ontario, where Mr Weber was married to Elizabeth Schmaus who was born June 29th, 1818, and died June 3rd, 1886. Here they resided about twenty years, then he disposed of his farm and purchased that of Moses Weaver a little east of Heidelberg where they resided until their deaths. He died March 22nd, 1886. Mr. Weber was a man of noble character, industrious and economical. Modesty, coolness and deliberation were some of his characteristics. His descendants are not so much distinguished for being great men as for the uniform private worth of all of them, not intending to convey the idea that they are less able or competent to fill public positions than others but that a certain feature of character impells them always to attend to their own business first. None of them are and never have been ambitious for public citizenship. Mr. and Mrs. Weber were blessed with a family of eight children"
