    Bean, Martha, on Monday, April 17, 1995 at KW Health Centre, Martha Bean, of R.R.1 Wellesley. She was born in Kitchener 51years ago a beloved daughter of Susie (Shantz) Good of R.R.#2 Baden, and her husband LeRoy Good and the late Wayne Shantz (1977). She was a member of Wilmot Mennonite Church, R.R.#2 New Hamburg, where she had been song leader and taught Sunday School and Bible School. Martha and Ralph had owned and operated M.N.R. Tax Service for over 23 years. Martha had beena leader of the Baden Girls Club, a member of the Blachan Singers and had a great love of music. She had also been on the Board of Directors of the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo County. Loving wife of Ralph Bean whom she married July 3, 1965. Dear mother of Alan and Sharon of Waterloo, Janice and Duane Gingerich of Baden, Joanne and Brett Naisby of New Hamburg and Matthew at home. Ever remembered by her brothers and sister, Gloria and Garry Spencer of Listowel, Pauline and David Weber of Kitchener, Mark and Monica Shantz of Baden, Keith and Brenda Shantz of Burnaby, B.C.; step-brothers Dale and Doreen Good of Exeter, Bob and Sandi Good of Waterloo, Carl and Joyce Good of Toronto.     BEAN, Gordon Warren Passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence Nithview Community, New Hamburg. He was born 98 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the son of the late Warren and Margretha (Axt) Bean. Beloved husband of Lillian (Richardson) Bean with whom he had celebrated 71 years of marriage. Dear father of Ralph and wife Sandra Bean of Wellesley, Catherine Hunsberger of Waterloo, Marjorie and husband Wayne Roth of Elmira, Doris Bean of Milverton, Howard and wife Barbara Bean of Tavistock, Sharon and husband Alec Sunrise of Hay River, N.W.T. Sadly missed by his 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children. Also missed by his sister Hilda Helmuth, of Listowel, sisters-in-law Elsie Cressman and Gladys Cressman both of New Hamburg. Gordon was predeceased by son-in-law Floyd Hunsberger, daughter-in-law Martha Bean, sisters Dorothy Bean, Ruth and husband Matthew Kiereta, brothers Andrew and wife Reta Bean, Oliver and wife Margaret Bean, Norman Bean, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Walter Helmuth, Sydney and wife Louisa Richardson, Alfred and wife Gertrude Richardson, Philip and Dorothy Richardson and Elizabeth and husband Jim Whitfield, Ruth and husband Clifford Strubhar and Howard Cressman. Gordon was a member of Grace Mennonite Church. After retirement from farming near New Dundee, he drove a bus for Shantz Bus Lines for 14 years. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg today Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden, with Pastor Earl Koch officiating. The fellowship time will follow immediately following the funeral service with interment to follow at Nith Valley Mennonite Cemetery.     Bishop Curtiss C. Cressman

    New Hamburg - Bishop Curtiss C. Cressman of RR 1, New Hamburg, died Wednesday at K-W Hospital after a brief illness. He was 77.

    Born May 31, 1894, in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Cressman.

    He farmed in Wilmot Township for many years and was bishop of the New Hamburg Conservative Mennonite Church.

    Bishop Cressman was predeceased by his first wife, the former Amanda Ethel Byler in 1956 and his second wife, the former Clarice Cressman in 1969; by a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Strubhar in 1955; a son and a daughter in infancy, and two brothers.

    Surviving are a son, Howard of RR 1, New Hamburg; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Lillian) Bean of New Dundee and Elsie Cressman, a missionary in Somali, Africa; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

    The body is at the Bruce A. Omand Funeral Home here until noon Friday when removal will be made to the church for service at 2 p.m. Rev. Earl Koch will officiate.

    Burial will be in Biehn Mennonite cemetery, Wilmot Township.

    Mrs. C. C. Cressman Died After Brief Illness

    (By Southwest Wilmot corres.) Mrs. Curtis C. Cressman, 63, of R.R. 1, New Hamburg, wife of Bishop Curtis C. Cressman, died suddenly on Friday night at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, following a very brief illness which was a complication of a diabetic condition. Mrs. Cressman, the former Amanda Ethel Byler, was born in Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Byler. In 1919 she was married to Bishop Cressman, and since that time has lived in the New Hamburg area. She served in various capacities in the Biehn Mennonite Church by wise counsel and spirtual guidance as well as the many manual tasks which she encountered. She was well loved by all her neighbors who learned over the years to admire and respect her cheerful disposition and unbiased opinion. She recently assisted with four weeks of summer Bible school work, two weeks at the Bright Mennonite Mission, and two weeks at the Biehn Community Summer Bible School.

    Surviving Surviving beside her husband are one son, Howard, of New Hamburg; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Lillian) Bean, New Dundee; Miss Elsie, a missionary in Tanganyika, East Africa; four brothers, Elmer, Freeport, N.Y.; Joseph, Clarence Centre, N.Y.; Archie and Raymond, of LaGrange, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Amos (Mary) Yoder, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Mrs. Christopher (Alice) Miller, of Lindville, Virginia; Mrs. Roy (Elsie) Frey, Akron, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children in infancy, Paul and Lydia, and by Mrs. Clifford (Ruth) Strubhar.

    A very large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral service which was held at the Biehn Mennonite Church on Tuesday afternoon with Bishop Moses Roth and Rev. Moses N. Baer conducting the service. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Mourners were in attendance from LaGrange, Ind.; Freeport, 111.; Akron, N.Y.; Lindville, Va.; Uniontown, O.; Culp, Ark.; St. Clair, Mich., and from many Ontario centres.

    Joseph Shantz - Baden

    Joseph Shantz, 60, of R.R. 2 New Hamburg , died at his home yesterday afternoon following a lengthy illness. Born in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Daniel Shantz, he was a well known district farmer. He was a member of the Geiger Mennonite Church. Besides his wife, the former Lydia Snyder, two sons, Vernon of Victoriaburg and Wayne of Baden, and to daughters, Louise and Alice at home, survive. Here brothers, Norman and Simeon of Haysville and Uzziah of Strasburg and two sisters, Mrs. Ephraim Schmidt and Mrs. John McKenzie of Baden and one grandchild also survive. A sister Annie, died 34 years ago. The remains will be held at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 7 o'clock tonight when removal will be made to the residence near Baden until 1: 30 p.m. Monday. The funeral with Rev. Moses Roth officiating will be held at the Geiger Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    Joseph Shantz

    A lifelong and well known resident of Wilmot Township, Mr. Joseph Shantz, passed away at his home east of Wilmot Centre on Friday, May 15, aged 60 years. He had been ill for some time and two months ago sold his farm, stock and implements, owing to poor health.

    The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Shantz, pioneer residents of the district. He was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church.

    Besides his wife, the former Lydia Snyder, he is survived by two sons, Vernon, Victoriaburg, Wayne, Baden, two daughters, Louise and Alice, at home. He is also survived by three brothers, Norman and Simeon Shantz, of Haysville, Ussiah, Strasburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Eph. Schmidt, and Mrs. John McKenzie, Baden, and one grandchild.

    The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from his late home to Geiger Mennonite Church for service, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Moses Roth conducted the funeral service, which was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends.

    Joseph, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Nahrgang) Shantz, was born in Wilmot Twp., on Dec. 30, 1881, and lived in the said township his entire lifetime. He passed away at his home near Baden, Ont., on May 15, 1942; aged 60 y. 4 m. 15 d. Bro. Shantz had been in failing health for some time, but was not confined to the house until the last several weeks before his death. He was a faithful member of the Geiger Mennonite congregation near Baden for the past 45 years. His place at church was seldom vacant. During his last illness he expressed his desire to go Home. On Feb. 8, 1911, he was married to Lydia Snider who survives him with four children: Vernon of Petersburg, Wayne of Baden, and Louise and Alice, at home. There also remain: 1 granddaughter, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters: Norman and Simeon of Haysville, Uzziah of Strasburg, Mrs. Ephraim Schmitt and Mrs. John McKenzie of Baden. One sister, Annie, predeceased him 34 years ago. Funeral services were held at the home by Bro. M. Hallman and then at the Geiger Mennonite Church, where the Bros. C. C. Culp of Brethren, Mich., and M. H. Roth spoke from the texts found in John 14:1-7 and Matt. 5:12a. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

    Shantz, --- Lydia, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos Snyder, passed away at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital after a brief illness, March 22, 1953, in her seventy-fourth year. On Feb. 11, 1911, she was united in marriage to Joseph Shantz, who preceded her in death 11 years ago. Surviving are 2 sons (Vernon and Wayne, Petersburg, Ont.), 2 daughters (Louise-Mrs. David Jantzi, Kitchener, Ont.; and Alice-Mrs. David Cressman, New Hamburg, Ont.), and 6 grandchildren. She was converted in her youth and united with the Mennonite Church to which faith she was loyal until her death, seldom being absent from church services. She was keenly interested in the work of the church, having been a Sunday-school teacher for many years and an active member of the local sewing circle at the time of her departure from this world. Funeral services were conducted, March 25, at the Geiger Mennonite Church, by C. C. Cressman and M. H. Roth. The body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

    NEW HAMBURG - Mrs. Lydia Shantz, 73, of RR 2, New Hamburg, died yesterday at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness. She was born at Baden, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos B. Snyder. Her husband, Joseph Shantz, died May 15, 1942. Mrs. Shantz was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church. Surviving are two sons, Vernon, and Wayne, both of RR 2, Petersburg; two daughters, Mrs. David (Louise) Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. David (Alice) Cressman, RR 2, New Hamburg, and six grandchildren.     Mrs. Wilfred Wanner

    Mrs. Wilfred L. Wanner of 410 Stirling Ave., S., Kitchener, died Saturday at her home. She was 77.

    The former Lauretta Fried, she was born in Blenheim Township near Roseville and was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. Allan Fried.

    She had been a resident of Kitchener for the past six years and formerly lived in the New Dundee area for many years.

    She was a member of Grace United Church, Roseville, and the United Church Women.

    She was predeceased by her first husband, Gilbert Becker, in 1919 and her second husband, Wilfred Wanner, in 1953 and by one brother and one sister.

    Surviving are two sons, R. Willard (Bill) Becker and Ward G. Becker, both of New Dundee; and seven daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Margaret) Bean of New Dundee, Mrs. Peter (Myrtle) Vanderscoot of New Hamburg, Mrs. Wayne (Susie) Shantz of St. Agatha, Cleo Wanner of Kitchener, Mrs. Elgin (Ivy) Musselman of Waterloo, Mrs. John (Reta) Hofstetter of Plattsville, Mrs. Melvin (Dorothy) Shantz of Petersburg; three brothers, Ephraim of Kitchener, Ralph and Clayton, both of Roseville; two sisters, Mrs. Edgar (Cleo) Latsch of Roseville, Mrs. Harry (Ethel) Brodhaecker of Galt; 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

    The body will be at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Tuesday when removal was made to Grace United Church, Roseville, where Rev. A. M. Schlenker conducted the service at 2:30 p.m.

    Burial was in the Roseville cemetery.
