    LEIS Abner -- On Monday, Dec. 1, 1986, at Victoria Hospital, London, Ont., Abner Leis, of 131 Queen St. W., Wellesley. Abner was born in Wellesley Township 73 years ago, a son of the late John B. Leis and the late Barbara Gascho. He was a member of Wellesley Mennonite Church, he farmed in Wellesley, retiring in 1974. Beloved husband of the former Viola Roth of Wellesley; dear father of Bruce and his wife Joyce Leis of RR 2, New Liskard, Larry Leis and his friend Mary of Kitchener, Denese and her Husband Murray Gingerich of Baden. Lovingly remembered by his twin brother, Rev. Alvin Leis of RR 1, Wellesley, John Leis of Lockport, NY, Erven Leis of Wellesley; Katie (Mrs. Elmer Lebold) of New Hamburg, Edna (Mrs. John Roth) of New Hamburg and Alma (Mrs. Clarence Roth) of Newton. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Andrea and Jason Leis, Stacey and Erin Gingerich. Predeceased by two brothers, Allan and Norman; six sisters, Salome, Barbara, Sarah, Emma, Nancy and Mary and by one grandson, Adam Lee Gingerich, July 25, 1981. Visitation at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 40 Henry St., Wellesley, where the family will receive friends this evening from 7-9 and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9. At 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, removal will be made to Wellesley Mennonite Church for funeral service at 2 p.m. Pastor Gerald Schwartzentruber will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple View Mennonite cemetery.

    Mrs. Viola LEIS, L. -On Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Viola Lydian (Roth) Leis, formerly of Wellesley. Viola was born in O'Neil, Nebraska, 85 years ago. Daughter of the late Christian S. Roth and the late Veronica Kennel. Mrs. Leis was a member of the Wellesley Mennonite Church. She was a loving foster mother to many children and was an avid quilter and gardener. Viola also had a great love for roses. On October 28, 1936, she married Abner Leis, who predeceased her on December 1, 1986.

On Jan. 9, 1899, he was married to Barbara Gascho, who preceded him in death Nov. 28, 1918. On June 28, 1921, he was married to Sarah Steinman, who died Dec. 25, 1921. Surviving are 6 sons (John, Allan, Abner, Alvin, Norman, and Ervin), 4 daughters (Salome, Emma - Mrs. Aaron Gascho, Katie - Mrs. Elmer Lebold, and Alma - Mrs. Clarence Roth), one stepdaughter (Edna - Mrs. John Roth), 44 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one brother (Joseph). He was preceded in death by 4 daughters, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held June 29, in charge of Jacob Roes and Ralph Lebold; interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    Roth.-Fannie, daughter of the late Chris and Mary (Jantzi) Kennel, was born July 25, 1890, near O'Neill, Nebr.; passed to her eternal reward at the K. W. Hospital, Kitchener, Ont.; June 26, 1944; aged 53 y. 11 m. 1 d. For several years she suffered from am inward goiter. In 1910 she was married to Chris Roth. This union was blessed with ten children. She is survived by her husband, 5 sons, and 5 daughters (Clarence and Elmer, Britton, Ont.; Irma-Mrs. Clayton Schultz, Poole, Ont.; Viola-Mrs. Abner Leis, Wellesley, Ont.; Mildred, Gladys, Clayton, Lester, Marjorie, and Mervin at home), 8 grandchildren, 3 sisters (Annie-Mrs. C. O. Jantzi, Baden, Ont.; Mattie-Mrs. Joe Kauffman, Havelock, Iowa.; and Ida-Mrs. Wesley Stutzman, Milford, Nebr.), one brother (Daniel Kennel, Huron, S. Dak.), and a stepmother. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the Mennonite Church, in which faith she died. Funeral services were held in her late home June 29 by Chris Brunk, and at the Poole A.M. Church by Chris Schultz and Moses H. Roth. Text, Phil. 1: 21. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Roth - Christian N., son of Christian and Catherine (Lichty) Roth, was born in Wellsley, Ont., Jan. 2, 1857; died April 16, 1938; aged 81 y. 3 m. 14 d. After an attack of pneumonia for four days, he passed quietly away. At the age of sixteen he was baptized and united with the Amish Mennonite Church to which faith he staunchly held until his death. He was united in marriage to Lydia Swartzentruber on Sept. 25, 1877, who preceded him in death Sept. 17, 1922. Two sons and five daughters mourn his departure (Mrs. Fanny Wagler, Wellsley; Mrs. Katie Bender, New Hamburg; Christ S., Britton; Leah S., at home; Mrs. Mary Streicher, Milverton; Mrs. Lydia Bender, New Hamburg; Jacob S., Ontario, Calif.); also 32 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers and 1 adopted son mourn his departure. Funeral services were held at the Maple View Amish Mennonite Church, conducted by Bros. Peter Nafziger, Dan Lebold, and Moses Roth. Texts, I Thess. 2: 12, 13; II Cor. 5: 1.

    WELLESLEY. The death occurred after a short illness of Christian Roth, 82-year-old resident of this village. He is survived by five daughters, two sons and four brothers.

    Funeral services were held held yesterday afternoon from his late residence to Maple View Amish Mennonite Church, third line Wellesley, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    MRS. C. N. ROTH

    Lydia Schwartzentruber, beloved wife of Christian N. Both, passed away at Wellesley, Ont., at the age of 64 years and 10 days. She had been in falling health for some time, suffering from a weak heart. It was while on a vislt to her youngest brother and wife at Petersburg (the latter being very sick) that she was called to the Great Beyond.     Deceased was born in Wilmot township on Sept. 7th, 1858, and united with the Amish Mennonite church at that place in the year 1874. On Sept. 25th, 1877, she was married to Christian N. Roth of Wellesley, To them were born seven children, two sons and five daughters: Mrs. Noah Wagler (Fannie), at Wellesey; Mrs. Moses J. Bender (Katie), at New Hamburg: Christ., at Britton, Ont.; Leah and Mary, at home; Mrs. Christ. Bender (Lydia), at New Hamburg. Jacob, at Hesston, Kansas. Fifteen grand- children also survive. She also leaves to mourn her loss five brothers and one sisters, all of Petersburg, Ont., besides a host of friends and relatives.

    The funeral was held at one o'clock at the house and interment was made at the Third Line cemetery. After burial, funeral services were held, conducted by Bro. Christ. Litwiller, who spoke from the text I Sam. 20:3, and Bro. Daniel Steinman, who took for his text Rom. 8:1-11.
