    William Earl Smith Passes

    William Earl Smith of Piper Street, Ayr passed away in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Friday September 8th. He was in his 54th year, Born in Brussels. Mr. Smith moved to the Princeton area with his parents in 1904. After farming for several years in the Princeton area, he moved to Ayr in 1943. He was employed by Spring Valley Dairy and had an ice-cream route throughout the district. Mr. Smith was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Dearly beloved husband of Margaret Muma and dear father of Neil and George, both of Sudbury. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Dear brother of Mrs. Eva Wells and Mrs. Alex (Laura) Scott, both of the Paris district. Predeceased by daughter Mrs. J. L. (Anne) Peters and sister Mrs. Wesley (May) Stephenson. Funeral service was at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris on Monday. Rev. D. E. Willis of Ayr officiated. Interment in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon McRuer, Scott Wells, William Scott, Robert Kyle, Joseph and Larry Peters.

    Mrs. Margaret Smith of Piper Street, Ayr passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Monday, September 6th. Shc was in her 83rd year. Margaret Kingsburgh Muma was a daughter of George B. Muma and Annie Kyle. She was the wife of the late William Earl Smith who predeceased her in 1978. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of this area. She taught at the Townline School until it closed and then for a time at Drumbo. She was a member of Knox United Church and the Ayr Senior Citizens. Dear mother of Neil and George both of Sudbury Also survived by eight grand children and two great - grandchildren Predeceased by a daughter Anne Peters, sister, Anna Fuller and two brothers G. Bertram Muma and Frederic C. Muma. Funeral service will he held at the Kipp Funeral Home, Paris today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. with Rev., George Saunders officiating. Interment in Ayr Cemetery

    Mrs. George Muma Passes in 90th Year - Mrs. George B. Muma died at the Paris Nursing Home on Friday in her 90th year. The former Annie Kyle, daughter of the late George and Margaret Kyle, she was born in Blenheim Township. Mrs. Muma and her husband farmed for many years on the Town line on the farm now owned by Robert Kyle. She was a member of Knox United Church. Mrs. Muma was predeceased by her husband 14 years ago and by a son, Bertram, 17 years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W. E. (Margaret) Smith, Ayr, and Mrs. F. L. (Anna) Fuller, New York; one son, Fred Muma, Ancaster; a brother, James Kyle, RR 1, Drumbo; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service was conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smith, Piper St., by Rev. F. L. Tose of Paris on Monday. Interment was in the Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Robert Anderson, Galt; Hector Kyle, Ayr; Kingsborough Kyle, Ayr; Austin Nunan, Paris; Marshall Daniel, Richwood, and John Marrison, Richwood.

    ABSALOM MUMA, farmer, Ayr P.O., Township of South Dumfries, is a native of the County of Brant, Ont., having been born December 23, 1830, in the Village of St. George, and is a son of Christian Muma and Anna Muma. The former was born August 28, 1779, in Pennsylvania, and died in Canada, July 12, 1863; the latter was born in the State of New Jersey, in 1789, and died in Canada, June 8, 1860. Mr. Muma Sr., emigrated to Canada on Feb. 1, 1800, and his wife that was to be came on horseback with her brother-in-law in 1808, and they were united in marriage, Feb. 1, 1813, near Dundas Ont., where they remained several years, when they moved to St. George, in which village they resided until 1833. In that year they went on the farm known as Shannon Farm, and resided there Till 1839. Finally in that year they moved to the farm where Absalom and his family now reside, and rested there the remainder of their days. Absalom Muma, the subject of our sketch, was married June 20, 1865, to Anna Lawrason, who was born in St. George Village, April 1, 1830, and was a daughter of Robert and Margaret Lawrason. Mr. and Mrs. Muma, who are adherents of the Methodist Church, are the parents of three children- George Bertram, Margaret Ann and Clara Augusta. Mr. Muma, who acquired a thorough common school education, by industry has proved very successful in his farming operations. He is owner, at the present time, of 186 acres of improved land, with substantial buildings thereon. He owns in Ayr, a large two-story brick house and three acres of land, with good outbuildings.
