    MARTIN, Rufus B. - Peacefully, on Monday, June 10, 1996, at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Rufus B. Martin, in his 90th year, formerly of St. Jacobs.

    Loving husband of Lavina (Knarr) Martin of New Hamburg. Dear father of Elmer and Alice Martin of Linwood, Lloyd and Violet Martin of Elmira. Fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and also remembered by his six step-children and their families.

    Predeceased by his first wife, Ada Hunsberger; one great-grandson, Isaac Weber; eight brothers and sisters.

    Rufus was a longtime resident of St. Jacobs and a member of Calvary United Church.

    The family will receive friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Transfer will be made on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. to Calvary United Church, St. Jacobs, for funeral service at 11 a.m., with Rev. Brian Robinson and Pastor Gerald Schwartzentruber officiating, followed by interment in Calvary United Cemetery.

    In his memory, donations to Calvary United Church Building Fund or Nithview Home may be made as expressions of sympathy.

    Notes:

    Mrs. Rufus B. Martin of St. Jacobs died Friday Aug 8 at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness. She was 61.

    The former Ada Hinsberger, she was born in Guemsey, Sask.. a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Menno Hunsberger.

    She came to Ontario as a child and lived in the St. Jacobs area most of her life.

    Mrs. Martin was a member of 51. Jacobs Mennonite Church and the sewing circle of the church.

    Surviving besides ber hus- band. are two sons, Elmer of St. Jacobs and Lloyd of West Montrose; one brother. Melvin of New Hamburg: five stepbrothers, Irvin Martin of Edson, Alta., Ephriam Martin and Milton Martin of Albany, Ore., Abner Martin of Preston and Urias Mar- tin of Kitchener; three step-sis- ters, Mrs. Irvin (Hannah) Lichty of Breslau, Mrs. Amos (Melinda) Good and Mrs. Moses (Barbara) Roth, both of New Hamburg; and four grandchildren. step-brothers and one step-sister.

    The body was at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home after 7:30 p. m. Saturday until noon Monday when removal was made to St. Jacobs Mennonite Church where Bishop J. B. Martin and Rev. Glenn Brubacher conducted the service at 3 p.m.

    Burial was in St. Jacobs Mennonite cemetery.

    Cressman, Eden M., son of Urias and Melinda (Martin) Cressman, was born in Wilmot Twp., Ont., Mar. 10, 1904; died of heart failure at his home in Elmira, Ont., Dec. 29, 1975; aged 71 y. On Sept. 14, 1927, he was married to Laura Dettwiler, who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters (Naomi - Mrs. Milton Shoemaker, Mary - Mrs. Marshall Musselman, and Violet - Mrs. Lloyd Martin), one son (Calvin), and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter (Beatrice) and one brother (Harvey). He was a member of St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Dec. 31, in charge of Glenn Brubacher and Vernon Leis; interment in St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery.

    On Monday, Dec. 29, 1975, at his home, 54 Church St. W., Elmira, in his 72nd year.

    Beloved husband of Laura Dettwiler; dear father of Mrs. Milton (Naomi) Shoemaker of Route 1, Elmira, Mrs. Marshall (Mary) Musselman of Route 2, Elmira; Mrs. Lloyd (Violet) Marvin and Calvin, both of Elmira; 16 grandchildren also survive; he was predeceased by his parents, one daughter in infancy and one brother.

    Friends may call at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., when removal will be made to St. Jacobs Mennonite Church for funeral service at 2:30 p.m

    CRESSMAN, Laura (Mrs. Eden M.) - It is with a sense of joy and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother to her Heavenly Home. Laura (Dettwiler) Cressman, in her 103rd year, of Chateau Gardens, Elmira, died peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2008. She has gone to join her dear husband, Eden Cressman (1975) and infant daughter, Beatrice (1934). She was the mother of Naomi and Milt Shoemaker of Elmira, Mary and Marshall Musselman of St. Jacobs, Violet Martin of Floradale, Calvin and Janice Cressman of Elmira. She was the proud grandmother to three generations of grandchildren. She is also survived by many of her extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, A.K. and Veronica (Sauder) Dettwiler; two brothers, Enos Dettwiler and Rev. Reuben Dettwiler; two sisters, Sevilla Dettwiler and Annie Ramer; three brothers in infancy; three great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Lloyd Martin. Laura's family will receive friends and relatives at the Elmira Mennonite Church on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steven Janzen and Pastor Renee Sauder officiating, followed by interment in the St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery. In her memory, donations to Mennonite Central Committee or Chateau Gardens Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.     Martin.-Simeon Martin, aged 76 y. 9 m. 24 d., who was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., died following a lengthy illness. He was married to Rebecca Bauman who preceded him in death nearly 5 months. Surviving are 2 daughters (Mrs. Ephraim Shantz of Waterloo, with whom he resided the last 14 months; and Louida, Mrs. Ervine Weber, Blair), 3 sons (Nelson, East Palestine, Ohio; Angus, Elmira, Ont.; Rufus, St. Jacobs, Ont.), 2 sisters (Mrs. D. B. Shantz, Buffalo, N. Y.; Mrs. Allan Shantz, Waterloo, Ont.), 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, 3 sons and 1 daughter died in infancy. He was a member of the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, at which place the funeral was held by Brethren Oliver D. Snider and Roy S. Koch.

    Martin - Rebecca, daughter of Eli and Rebecca Bauman, was born in the Jerusalem section, Ontario, Canada, June 26, 1863; died at the home of her daughter Lucinda near Waterloo, Ont., June 20, 1938; aged 75 y. 24 d. Nov. 21, 1882, she was united in marriage to Simeon Martin who with 2 daughters (Lucinda, wife of Ephraim Shantz, near Waterloo, with whom she resided, and Louida, wife of Irvin Weber of Blair), and 3 sons (Nelson of East Palestine, Ohio; Angus of near Elmira, and Rufus of St. Jacobs), remain to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving mother; also 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In early youth she gave her heart to the Lord and united with the Mennonite Church of which she was a faithful member to the end. Three sons (Amos, Alexander, and Eli), and a daughter (Hannah) preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church with Bros. Roy Koch and Oliver D. Snider in charge. Interment in Martin's Cemetery.

    Notes:

    Hunsberger. - Menno S. Hunsberger was born near Baden, Waterloo Co., Ontario; died near Cressman, Sask., July 13, 1908; aged 34 y. 5 m. Seven years ago he went West, and took up a claim in the Waterloo settlement, near Carstairs, Alberta. Two years later he was married to Lizzie Habermehl. To this union were born four children, two of which died in infancy. One and a half years ago he moved in the Mennonite settlement at Cressman, Sask. The past few years he has been ailing considerably, and the last few months grew weaker until the death angel relieved him of his sufferings from tuberculosis. He leaves a loving wife and two children, besides many friends. He was a devoted and faithful member of the Mennonite Church, which means much in "these last days." The burial services were conducted on the 14, and the body was laid to rest in the Sharon Mennonite Cemetery. The funeral services were held on the 15, by E. S. Hallman and David Garber.     Martin, Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Habermehl, was born near Baden, Ont., Oct. 21, 1881; died at the Bethesda Home, Vineland, Ont., April 7, 1963; aged 81 y. 5 m. 17 d. Her first husband, Menno Hunsberger, died in 1908. In 1910. she married Jonathan Martin, who died in 1939. Surviving are one son (Melvin Hunsberger), one daughter (Ada-Mrs. Rufus Martin), 9 stepchildren, 2 brothers. and 3 sisters. She was a member of the St. Jacobs Church, where funeral services were held April 10, in charge of J. B. Martin and Glen Brubacher.

    Cressman. --- Urias, youngest son of the late Menno and Lydia (Martin) Cressman, was born May 31, 1867; died March 11, 1940, in his 73rd year. In 1898, he was united in marriage to Melinda Martin, who predeceased him Dec. 25, 1922. This union was blessed with 3 children (Harvey, at home; Eden, of St. Jacobs; and Sylvia, who died in infancy). There also remain 3 grandchildren and 2 sisters (Mrs. James Moyer of Vineland, Ont.; and Mrs. Moses M. Brubacher of St. Jacobs, Ont.). He was born and resided continuously on the old homestead in Southwest Wilmot, Ont., his late home. Death came very suddenly. He was feeling slightly ill when he retired but was not considered serious. About midnight he seemed quite well, but before morning the spirit took its flight. As a young man he accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Mennonite Church, in which faith he died. Funeral services were held on March 13 at the home and at Bean's Mennonite Church by the Brethren Manasseh Hallman and Moses H. Roth. Text, Amos 4: 12-"Prepare to meet thy God." Burial in adjoining cemetery.

    Dettwiler.-Abraham K., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham W. Dettwiler, was born near Floradale, Ont., Oct. 20, 1862; died at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., after a brief illness, May 4, 1949; aged 86 y. 6 m. 14 d. He spent some of his early years in Michigan, took up residence in St. Jacobs, Ont., in 1913 and lived there until his death. On March 12, 1893, he was united in marriage to Veronica Sauder, who preceded him in death nearly twelve years ago. To this union were born 8 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. Surviving are 3 daughters (Sevilla, St. Jacobs, Ont.; Mrs. Annie Ramer. Markham, Ont.; and Laura-Mrs. Eden Cressman, St. Jacobs), 2 sons (Enos, West Montrose, Ont.; and Reuben, Floradale, Ont.), one sister (Mrs. Elizabeth Culp, Wakarusa, Ind.), 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church from his youth. Funeral services were held at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church on May 6, in charge of Roy S. Koch.

    Dettwiler.- Veronica, youngest daughter of Jacob and Barbara Sauder, was born Dec. 22, 1865, near Hawkesville, Ont. died at the K H. hospital on June 30, 1937; aged 71 y. 6 m. 8 d. On March 12, 1893, she was united in marriage to Abraham K. Dettwiler. To this union were born 8 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. There remain to mourn her sudden departure a sorrowing husband and 5 children (Sevilla, at home; Annie, widow of Mart Ramer, of Markham, Ont.; Enos of West Montrose, Ont,; Reuben, minister of the Floradale, Ont., congregation; Laura, Mrs. Eden Cressman, at home) and 15 grandchildren. There also remain 3 brothers (Henry, John, August) and a sister (Katie, Mrs. William Westfall), all of St. Jacobs, Ont. Two brothers and 4 sisters predeceased her. She accepted Christ and united with the Mennonite Church in her youth and remained faithful to the end. She was a member of the St. Jacobs senior sewing circle and' her place was rarely vacant. Funeral services were conducted at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church on July 2 by the bishops, Jonas Snider and Oliver Snider. Internment in the Conestoga Cemetery at Three Bridges.

    Mrs. Abs. K. Dettwiler of St. Jacobs passed away early this (Wednesday) morning in her 72nd year at the K.-W. hospital, after two weeks' illness.

    Mrs. Dettwiler, who was born in Peel Township, her maiden name being Veronica Sauder, and after her marriage to Absolom K. Dettwiler resided for about twenty years in Michigan, moving with the family to St. Jacobs.

    Two sons and three daughters, be sides her husband survive, namely: Reuben of R.R. 1, Elmira; Enos, of West Montrose; Mrs. Annie Roemer Markham; Sevilla and Laura (Mrs. Eden Cressman), at home.

    There are also three brothers and one sister surviving. August and Henry Sauder of St. Jacobs, John Sauder of Breslau and Mrs. William Westfall, St. Jacob.

    The funeral will take place, after a private service, from her late home on Friday afternoon at two o'cleok to the St. Jacobs Mennonite church for service with interment in the St. Jacobs Mennonite cemetery.
