    Notes:

    JOSEPH WAYNE SNYDER 1909 - 1996

Wayne was born June 19, 1909, a son of Jacob B. Snyder and Angeline (Groff) Snyder. He grew up on the family farm (present site of St. Daniel's Church, Ottawa and Franklin Sts., Kitchener) along with five sisters, Beulah Olive, Seleda, Cora and Eileen.

On June 27, 1934, he married Olive Martin. They raised five children, Jean (husband-Ronald Gimbel; Carol Anne (husband - Ronald Hunt); Marion, Bruce (wife Helen); and Marjorie. Wayne will be missed by all, including his grandchildren, Joyce, Lois, Sandra, Susan, Wendy, Carolyn, Laurie, Jon-Paul, Tim, Beth, Johnathan, Daniel, and great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberley Melanie, Christopher, Jonathan, Rebecca, Kieran, James Sean, Meaghan, Sarah and Chloe.

Wayne operated the family farm for many years. The mixed farming operation included a herd of Jersey dairy cattle. He was a hard worker and took pride in running a successful farm operation. He was active in various agricultural associations. After retiring from active farming he attended the Thursday auction at the Stockyards in North Waterloo and this continued to be part of his weekly routine until about five years ago.

Wayne and Olive sold the farm and moved to Rosemount Drive in Kitchener in 1968. He drove a delivery truck for an auto supply company and worked at Canadian Tire. Then, in 1986, when Olive's health was failing, they moved to an apartment at Fairview. They celebrated 55 years of happy married life together before Olive died in 1990.

Wayne was a lifelong member of the Stirling Ave. Mennonite Church and faithfully attended and participated in many church activities. Together with Olive, they did a lot of visiting shut-ins, and volunteering at the M.C.C. Relief Sale. Wayne was also involved in the work of the House of Friendship and Waters Mennonite Church at Sudbury.

Music was important in the home and Wayne's bass voice added to many sing-songs around the piano at family gatherings. In later years, he sang in the Festival of Male Voice Praise choir of Hamilton and he choir at Fairview Mennonite Home. He really enjoyed attending the Scottish Festival at Fergus and listening to the bagpipes playing.

He took up the hobby of rug-hooking in his retirement years and created many colourful mats and wall hangings. Wayne and Olive enjoyed the beauty of God's creation and took many trips across Canada and the U.S. A trip through the Muskoka area of Ontario during the fall colour season was an annual event for them.

We are thankful for Wayne's long life and for his devotion to God and family.
