    Moritz, Verna B. - At St. Mary's Hospital, on Friday, June 11, 1993, after a brief illness, the former Verna Barbara Schenk, of Kitchener, age 85 years. Verna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Queen Street, Kitchener. She was a member of the Ladies Guild, the Altar Guild, a kitchen convener, member of St. Paul's Church Quilters and the Happy Gang. Mother of Frank and his wife Ione of Waterloo, Brian and his wife Diane of Cambridge, sister of Audry Lang and Lucile Rieck, both of Kitchener; grandmother to David and his wife Shari, Murray, Jessica, Lisa and her husband George Prine and Christopher. Predeceased by her parents, George and Gertrude Schenk; her husband Karl in 1974; two brothers, Webourn and Roy and one sister, Ortha Stahle. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, from 7-9 p.m. this evening (Saturday); 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, until noon on Monday when removal will be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Queen Street South, Kitchener, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., with Pastor Allan Scharlach officiating. Internment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Donations to St. Mary's Hospital Building Fund may be made as expressions of sympathy.

    George Schenk, 68 year-old Kitchener merchant, of 135 Benton St., died last night in K-W Hospital after an illness of several months. He was born at Wilmot Centre, near Baden, the son of the late Casper Schenk and Mary Doerr. In 1905 he married Gertrude Culhame. From then until his recent illness, they operated a grocery business in the south ward. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Roy; four daughters, Mrs. Karl (Verna) Moritz; Mrs. Audrey Drummond; Mrs. Irvin (Ortha) Stahle; Mrs. Walter (Lucille) Rieck; and six grandchildren, all of Kitchener; one brother, John, Maryhill; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Witte, Mrs. Walter Mussleman, Elizabeth Schenk and Mrs. Ivan Heuckroth, all of Kitchener. Funeral will be held Sunday, 2: 30 pm, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Arthur Eissfeldt officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. The body is resting at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West.

    Casper Schenk passed away at his home, 27 South Albert street, this morning in his 78th year. Deceased was born in Wilmot township and had lived all his life in this vicinity. He was known among his acquaintances as a man of integrity and of unfailing loyalty to his many friends and his passing will be regretted by many. He is survived by his widow, two sons, George and John Schenk and four daughters, Mrs. Barbara Wittie, Mrs. Annie Musselman, Mrs. Susy Heuckroth and Miss Elizabeth Schenk all of Kitchener. One brother and two sisters also survive. The funeral will be held from his late residence on Thursday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Services will also be conducted at St. Peter's Lutheran church with internment being made later in the East End Lutheran cemetery.

    ATTEMPT AT OUTRAGE.

    Last Sunday night a tramp or burglar halted at the residence of Casper Schenk in Victoriaburg and entered the same. He was under the impression that Mr. Schenk's two daughters were the only inmates of the house and attempted to outrage them and in the endeavour tore one of the lady's clothes almost completely off the body. They however, stood a stout defense with the assistance of Mrs. Schenk managed to hold him at bay until Mr. Schenk came to the rescue and after a desperate struggle overpowered him with the assistance of a neighbor who was in the meantime called to the rescue he was bound captive till the morning when Constable Herle of this place brought him here where he appeared before the magistrate who sent him to Berlin to await his trial.

    Mrs. Mary Schenk, widow of Casper Schenk, passed away on Tuesday at her home, 27 Albert south, in her 79th year. Mrs. Schenk was born in Waterloo county on Sept. 3, 1854. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Her husband predeceased her five years ago. Two sons and four daughters survive. They are: George, city, John of Waterloo township, Mrs. Barbara Whittle, Mrs. Annie Musselman, Miss Elizabeth Schenk, Mrs. S. Henchrach, all of Kitchener. Five brothers, Adam Doerr, Conestogo, Henry Doerr, in Michigan, Conrad, Edward and Charles Doerr, all of this city also survive with 20 grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon with services at her late home, Albert south, at 2 o'clock thence to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Internment will take place in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Dr. H. A. Sperling will officiate.
