    Prominent Minister Dies at Dashwood
Rev. Wm. Henrich, Evangelical Pastor, Passes After Long Illness.

A wide circle of friends and relatives in Waterloo and district learned with sincere regret of the passing of Rev. William S. Henrich, which occurred at the Evangelical parsonage at Dashwood on Friday, October 25th. He had not been in the best of health for a year and suffered a stroke a week before his death.

Rev. Mr. Henrich was born in St. Jacobs in 1869, where he spent his boyhood days and received his early education. Later he moved to Clifford where he entered business, remaining there for a number of years until he entered the ministry. Among his appointments were lengthy stays at Golden Lake, North Easthope, South Easthope, Roseville and Dashwood. Evidence to his faithful service and popularity among his congregations is seen in his long appointments, serving seven years charges.

The late Rev. Mr. Henrich was intensely interested in music, and leaves behind him lasting memorials in organized bands at North Easthope and at Dashwood. Both bands, with large memberships, are flourishing, the one at Dashwood comprising thirty pieces, organized during his short pastorate of only one and a half years.

There survive his passing, widow, nee Mary Cress of St. Jacobs, three sons, Walter of Toronto, Carl of Kitchener, and Norman of Cobalt; two daughter, Hilda (Mrs. H. Riepert) of Toronto, and Florence (Mrs. Edward Miller) of Sanria, also five sisters, Mrs. C. W. Sinder, Waterloo, Mrs. C. Wallace Glaister, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Mrs. Ford, S. Kumpf, Waterloo, and Mrs. C. G. Carmichael, Toronto. Two brothers predeceased him.

A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral of the late Rev. William S. Henrich which took place Monday from his late residence at Dashwood, where he was serving his second year as pastor of the Evangelical Church. Impressive and simple services were held at the home and church in the morning, following which the remains were brought to Waterloo Mount Hope cemetery. Here another service was held at three o'clock and was largely attended by friends from Kitchener, Waterloo and district, where deceased was widely and favorably known.

Rev. J. P. Hauch of Stratford had charge of the services. At Waterloo he was assisted by the District Superintendents, Rev. E. H. Bean, Listowel, Rev. H. A. Kellerman, Waterloo, and Rev. Albert Clemens, Hamilton. Favorite hymns of the deceased were sung, and the Dashwood church band played several selections most effectively.

At the church service Rev. Mr. Hauch and others paid high tribute to the splendid Christian character of deceased and his long years of faithful service to the church. Beautifal floral tributes were sent by friends and various church organizations The late Rev. Mr. Henrich had been in indifferent health for the. past year, and a week before his passing suffered a stroke.

His father was the late Ephraim Cress and his grandfather the late Simon Cress who was among the first settlers from Pennsylvania in Waterloo County in 1806. Mr. Cress for many years, was engaged in farming on a section of the old homestead, on which his grandfather had settled. He had lived retired for quite a number of years.

Fifty-three years ago the deceased was married to Marian Geib who, with the following seven children, survives him: Noah Cress, Berlin, Henry Cress Elmira, Mrs. 1. B. Brubacher, St. Jacobs; Mrs. (Rev.) W. Hench, Golden Lake; J. G. Cress, Berlin; Mrs. O. J. Smith, St. Jacobs; Aaron Cress, London. There are one brother and two, sisters; they are: Mr. John Cress and Mrs. John B. Wideman, St. Jacobs, and Mrs. Bernhardt Moyer, Berlin.

The cause of death was the infirmity of old age, which, how ever, had not become acute until a week ago Wednesday. Prior to that day, Mr. Cress had shown a remarkable vitality. As was his wont, he was hale and hearty up to the time of the setting in of the fatal affliction. The demise of Mr. Cress means the loss of a splendid type of citizen, whose characteristics included honesty, integrity and kindness. He was a descendant of the good Pennsylvania stock which has been such a big factor in the agricultural and industrial development of the northern sections of the county. Mr. Cress was 79 years and 28 days of age. The deceased was a member of the Old Mennonite faith. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at 2.15, from his late residence and to the Mennonite Church, thence to the Lutheran Cemetery for interment.
