    Notes:

    A former resident of Kitchener and New Dundee, Conrad Rockel, of Lanigan, Sask., died Wednesday in Saskatoon. He farmed in Western Canada most of his life and returned to Lanigan in 1942 after retiring to New Dundee for two years. His wife, the former Ida Bierwagen, died in 1942. He was a member of the Lutheran church. Survivors include three sons, Dr. A.C. Rockel of Kitchener, Henry of Langley Prairie, B.C.; Otto of Lanigan; three daughters, Mrs. Rob (Bertha) Stephan of Lanigan, Mrs. Albert (Marie) Doherty of North Vancouver, B.C., Mrs. Frank (Lena) Warwick of Meadow Lake, Sask.; one brother, Leonard of Kitchener; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Sunday in Lanigan. Burial will be in Lanigan cemetery.

    New Dundee, July 13 - Ida Augusta Bierwagen, wife of Conrad Rockel of New Dundee, died Saturday at the K-W Hospital. Mrs. Rockel was born in Germany on July 7, 1876, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Bierwagen, and came to this country with her parents in 1883. In 1898 she was married to Conrad Rockel and lived in Kitchener until 1907 when the family moved to the Canadian West, taking up a homestead at Drake, Sask. Later they settled in Lannigan, Sask.


    In 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Rockel retired from the farm and took up residence with their son, Dr. A.C. Rockel, at New Dundee. Deceased was of the Lutheran faith. She attended St. James Lutheran Church here and was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society. Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Dorothea and Mrs. Robert Stephen, both of Lannigan, Sask., and Marie of Penticton, B.C., three sons, Henry and Otto of Lannigan, Sask.,and Dr. Albert C. Rockel of New Dundee, and 11 grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Charles Stevens, Mrs. Henry Hilker, Mrs. Otto Heimpel and Mrs. Harvey Piellusch, all of Kitchener, and one brother, Carl Bierwagen, of Bridgeport. A short service was held at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home in Kitchener this afternoon at 4 o'clock in charge of Rev. A.L. Conrad of New Dundee. Remains will leave C.N.R. Station at 5: 32 p.m., en route to Lannigan, Sask., where funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon. Internment will be made in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Lannigan.

    John Ferdinand Julius Bierwagen

    The death of John Ferdinand Julius Bierwagen, occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. Piellusch, 60 Simeon street yesterday morning in his 82nd year. Mr. Bierwagen had been ill four days. He was a retired mason and attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He was born in Germany in 1848, and came to Canada in 1882. His wife predeceased him nine years ago, and he is survived by one son, Carl Bierwagen of this city, five daughters, Mrs. Conrad Rockel, Lanigan, Sask., Mrs. H. Hilker, Mrs. C. Shippanowski, Mrs. C. Heimpel and Mrs. H. Piellusch, of Kitchener, two brothers, Robert Bierwagen, Kitchener and Gustave Bierwagen of Germany, one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Bock, Waterloo, 15 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. One son died in infancy. The funeral will be held on Wednesday from the residence 60 Simeon street at 2 o'clock to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 2.30. Internment will be made at Mount Hope cemetery, Rev. J. Schmieder officiating.

    Late Mrs. Bierwagen

    The death of Mrs. Bertha Bierwagen occurred early this morning. The deceased was sixty-eight years of age and was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran church. She has resided in Kitchener for the last thirty-eight years of her life having come here from Germany. She is survived by her husband Mr. Ferdinand Bierwagen, five daughters, Mrs. H. Hilker, Louisa St., Mrs. C. Shipanowski, Louisa St., Mrs. C. Rockel, Saskatchewan, Mrs. H. Pilluch, Simeon St., and Miss Bertha at home, and one son, Mr. Charles Bierwagen, Pinke St. The funeral will take place on Sunday from the house 224 Waterloo street, at 2 o'clock to Mount Hope cemetery for internment.

    Mrs. Fred Bierwagen

    There passed away at 7: 30 this morning after a lengthy illness Mrs. Ferdinand Bierwagen, 224 Waterloo street. The deceased was about 68 years of age. Surviving are her husband, six children who are, Mrs. Rockle of Saskatchewan, Mrs. H. Hilker, Mrs. Shipanowski, Mrs. H. Piellusch, Miss Bertha and Charles all of Kitchener, and 16 grandchildren. Before her marriage she was known by the name of Bertha Paske. The deceased was a member of St. Matthews church. The funeral will be at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the residence to Mount Hope cemetery for internment.
