    Notes:

    One of Oldest Citizens Passes

Ayr lost one of its oldest residents on Saturday morning with the passing of Mrs. Sarah Alice Holdaway, in her 93rd year, a resident of this village for the past 65 years. The late Mrs. Holdaway was born in Drumbo, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Buckborough, and for many years lived with the family at the old toll gate at Keg Lane, where Mr. Buckborough tended the gate. Following her marriage to the late Edward Holdaway, she had resided in this community for her remaining life's span, latterly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Murray Gilespie, where she passed away. About 20 years ago, Mrs. Holdaway lost her sight, but this disability did not prevent her from performing her usual household tasks, which she continued until only a short time ago. She had maintained good health up until this winter when she suffered an attack of flu, the effects of which resulted in her death. The late Mrs. Holdaway was a member of the former Methodist Church here, and at the time of church union joined Knox United Church. She was the last surviving member of a family noted for their longevity. One sister, Mrs. Walter Patten (Charlotte) of Drumbo, who died several years ago, had reached the century milestone in life, while other members had lived to well over 90 years of age. Surviving are one son, Charles, and one daughter, Mrs. Murray Gillespie (Mary), both of Ayr. There are 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

    The Funeral

The funeral, which was largely attended, was held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Monday afternoon, with Rev. W. D. Goodger officiating. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were Albert Wood, H. Freer, James C. Swan, Leo Hadley, J. C. Kyle and Arthur Underwood.
