    JANTZI, Alvin -- Of 129 William St., Wellesley. passed away October 13, 1982, at his residence. He was born in Wellesley township 64 years ago.

    He had farmed in Wellesley township and was employed by Wendell Motors. Son of the late Jacob Jantzi and the former Katie Albrecht.

    Survived by his wife, the former Elmina Gerber; three sons, Orie of RR2, Nanticoke, Ont., Ronald of Collingwood, Larry of Wellesley; five daughters, Viola (Mrs. Glenn Gascho) of RR3, Stayner, Marjorie (Mrs. Cleon Wideman) of St. Albert, Alta., Marlene (Mrs. Delford Yutzi) of New Hamburg, Irene (Mrs. George Hosea) of Wellesley and Sharon (Mrs. Larry Keats) of Brampton. Also survived by 13 grandchildren. Predeceased by one sister.

    The Late Mr. Jantzi will be resting at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, Wellesley, after 7 p.m. this evening, until noon Friday, when removal will be made to the Mapleview Mennonite Church for a memorial service at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. Alvin Leis will officiate. Interment in the church cemetery.

    JANTZI, Mrs. Elmina L. - Suddenly, on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, in Kitchener, Elmina L. (Gerber) Jantzi, of Wellesley.Elmina was born in Wilmot township 83 years ago. Daughter of the late Solomon Gerber and the late Laura Leis. Mrs. Jantzi was a faithful member of the Maple View Mennonite Church, where she was active with the sewing circle. She was also a member of the Wellesley Horticultural Society.Loving mother of Viola and her husband Glenn Gascho of Wasaga Beach, Orie and his wife Anne Jantzi of RR 2, Nanticoke, Marjorie and her husband Cleon Wideman of St. Albert, Alta., Marlene and her husband Delford Yutzi of New Hamburg, Ronald and his wife Karen Jantzi of Wasaga Beach, Irene and her husband George Hosea of Wellesley, Sharon and her husband Larry Keats of Brampton and Larry Jantzi and his friend, Patricia of Cambridge. Dear sister of Ohmer Gerber of New Hamburg, Moses and his wife Mildred Gerber of Wellesley and Sarah Leis of New Hamburg. Sister-in-law of Eva Gerber of Stratford, Mary Gerber of Millbank and Susan Paleczny of Waterloo. Lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Predeceased by her husband, Alvin Jantzi, October 13, 1982; by four brothers, Elmer, Amos, Solomon and Alvin in infancy; by four sisters, Emma Schmidt, Esther Schwartz, Laura Jantzi and Clara in infancy; brothers-in-law, Ralph Leis, Nicholas Schmidt, David Schwartz and Elias Jantzi. Also by sisters-in-law, Sarah Gerber and Sarah Gerber.Visitation at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home in Wellesley, where family and friends will be received today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the Maple View Mennonite Church on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at 2: 30 p.m. Pastor Bruce Sawatsky will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Memorials to the Maple View Mennonite Church Building Fund or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

    Jacob W. Jantzi, 56, Wellesley, died on June 15th after a short illness. Born in Wilmot Township in 1892, he farmed in that area and was rural mail carrier for 23 years. He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Surviving are his father, John Jantzi, and his stepmother. His mother, the former Mattie Wagler, died in 1907. Also surviving are his wife, the former Katie Albrecht; one son, Alvin, Wellesley; one daughter, Susanna, at home; three brothers, Noah, of Bamberg, John and David of Wilmot Township; six sisters, Mrs. Christian (Barbara) Albrecht, of Vero Beach, Florida, Mrs. Jacob (Lydia) Albrecht, of Crosshill, Mrs. David (Katie) Nafziger, of R.R. 2, Milverton, Mrs. David (Mattie) Zehr of Crosshill, Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Roes and Mrs. Enoch (Sara) Horst, of Millbank. Five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at his residence on Saturday morning followed by church service at 10 o'clock at the Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Mose Nafziger officiated at the church and Rev. Samuel Roth, Wellesley, officiated at the house. The pallbearers were Ervin Nafziger, Clarence Miller Emanuel Albrecht, Aaron Jantzi, William Albrecht and David Jantzi. The funeral, which was one of the largest in the district, was attended with relatives and friends from Vero, Florida; Bay Port, Mich.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Kitchener, Baden, New Hamburg, Crosshill, Milverton and the surround district.

    MRS. JACOB JANTZI

    Mrs. Jacob Jantzi, 78, of Wellesley died Thursday, December 9 at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital. The former Katie Albrecht , she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Albrecht. She was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, Wellesley. Her husband Jacob died in 1949.

    She is survived by one son, Alvin of Wellesley, one daughter, Susanah Wilhelm, of Kitchener, one sister, Elvine Albrecht, of Wellesley, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body rested at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home , Wellesley where a family service was held Monday at 1: 15 p.m. The service was followed by a memorial service at the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

    SOLOMON GERBER

    Solomon R. Gerber, Wellesley, died suddenly at his home Saturday night, February 28th. Born in Wilmot township, October 14th, 1879, he was a son of the late Christian Gerber and the former Annie Reschly. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Mr. Gerber farmed in Wilmot township until he retired to Wellesley in 1944. His wife, the former Laura Leis, died in 1956. Surviving are five sons, Elmer and Ohmar, Wellesley; Amos and Solomon, both of R.R. 1, Millbank, and Moses, R.R. 1, Wellesley; five daughters, Mrs. Nicholas (Emma) Schmidt, Millbank; Mrs. David (Esther) Schwartz, R.R. 1, Millbank; Mrs. Ralph (Sarah) Leis, Wellesley; ;Mrs. Alvin (Emily) Jantzi, Wellesley; two brothers, Daniel, R.R. 1, Bamburg, and Christian, of Kingwood; one sister, Mrs. Daniel (Nancy) Erb, Wellesley; 42 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The remains rested at the family home, Wellesley, where service was held today (Wednesday) at 1: 30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, at 2: 00 p.m. Bishop Samuel Roth officiated. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

    John Jantzi

    A life long resident of Wellesley Township, Mr. John Jantzi, passed away at his home a mile and a half south of Wellesley, at nine-thirty Sunday morning, Nov. 12th, 1950, in his 85th year. Mr. Jantzi had been in poor health for about two years. The eldest son of the late Michael Jantzi and Lydia Brenneman, he was born on March 25th, 1866, on the farm where he passed away where his son David now resides. Around the year 1889 he was married to Mattie Wagler, who died in 1907. He then married the former Mary Wagler in 1912, who survives. Mr. Jantzi had been engaged in farming until retiring about twenty years ago. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Noah, John and David, near Wellesley, and six daughters, Mrs. Christian Albrecht (Barbara), Vero Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Jacob Albrecht (Lydia), Crosshill; Mrs. David Nafziger (Katie), Topping; Mrs. David Zehr (Mattie), Crosshill; Mrs. David Roes (Elizabeth), Millbank, and Mrs. Enoch Horst (Sarah), Millbank; 44 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Jacob, who died in June 1949 and Michael, and two daughters Mary and Nancy. Also a brother Jacob, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Nafziger (Mattie) and Elizabeth Jantzi predeceased him. The funeral service was conducted from his late residence Thursday morning (today). This was followed with a service in Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church on the 3rd Line of Wellesley. Rev. Moses Nafziger officiated at the services. Interment took place in the cemetery adjoining the church.

    Description
    Historic C.1900 slant-top desk crafted by Waterloo County cabinetmaker Christian O. Gerber (1845-1928, Wellesley Ontario). Refer to Michael Bird's "A Splendid Harvest - Germanic Folk and Decorative Arts in Canada" (1981: p.115, fig. 83). An outstanding example. Pine, grain-painted surface simulating figured maple, cross-banding, and paneling, full-round pilasters ebonized with floral highlights. Said to be the 'the nicest known' example. Condition: Excellent. Untouched original surface. Desk writing surface felt deteriorated. 42.5" w x 21.5" d x 57" h.
