Buschert chaired the physics department at Goshen College, 1965 - 1994, and was founder and director of the Turner Precision X-Ray Measurements Laboratory for solid-state research since 1970. He graduated from Goshen College in 1952, received a master's degree and doctorate from Purdue. He also worked for Bell and Motorola companies. Survivors-wife: Joy Martin Buschert; children: Allen, Russell, John Ross; brothers: Donald, David; 3 grandchildren. Congregational membership: Assembly Mennonite Church.     Buschert Chester, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Buschert, was born at Winterbourne, Ont., Dec. 28, 1889; passed away at his home in Preston, Ont., Sept. 18, 1946; aged 56 y. 8 m. 20 d. On Oct. 20, 1923, he was married to Mary Edna Snyder, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Robert, of Goshen College, Goshen, Ind.; and Donald and David, both at home), one sister (Mrs. Alex Sheriff, Carstairs, Alta.). and 3 brothers (Ivan, Cereal, Alta.; Joseph, Kitchener, Ont.; and Ammon, Waterloo, Ont.) In his early youth he united with the Mennonite Church, and for many years served as Sunday-school superintendent. In 1944 he was ordained to the office of deacon, and was actively engaged in charitable and mission organizations of the church. Funeral services were in charge of B. B. Shantz and Oscaar Burkholder, assisted by Levi C. Hartzler, of Goshen, Ind., and Merle Shantz, of Kitchener. Text, Acts 11: 24. His body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

    Buschert, Mary Edna, daughter of Absalom and Mary (Groff) Snyder, was born in Waterloo Twp., Ont., Jan. 13, 1896; died after a brief illness at the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Nov. 24, 1962; aged 66 y. 10 m. 11 d. On Oct. 21, 1923, she was married to Chester Buschert, who died Sept. 18, 1946. Surviving are 3 sons (Robert, Donald, and David), 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Oliver and Edward), and 2 sisters (Ida-Mrs. Norman Snider and Emma). One sister preceded her in death. She was a member of the Preston Church, where funeral services were held Nov. 26, in charge of Howard Good and Harold Mast.

    BUSCHERT - Wendell Buschert was born at Williamsburg, Ont., Sept. 13, 1847; passed away to his eternal rest at Breslau, Ont., on May 30, 1917; aged 69 y. 8 m. 28 d. His entire life was spent in Waterloo county. Bro. Buschert was a member of the Mennonite Church for many years, keeping the faith unto the end. He was married in 1871 to sister Lydia Cressman, to which union were born 12 children, 2 of them dying in infancy. There are left to mourn his departure a sorrowing wife, 7 sons, 3 daughters, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 23 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Breslau on Sunday afternoon, June 3, conducted by J. S. Woolner and Oscar Burkholder. Text, 11 Cor. 5: 1.

    BUSCHERT - Lydia Cressman was born Mar. 14, 1850; died at her home in Breslau, Ont., Mar. 19, 1927; aged 77 y. 5 d. On Nov. 26, 1871, she was united in marriage with Wendell Buschert. To this union were born 8 sons and 4 daughters. Her husband, 2 daughters, and 1 son have preceded her in death. She leaves 7 sons, 2 daughters, 29 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Sister Buschert united with the Mennonite Church during the ministry of Bishop Joseph Hagey, and died in the faith of her choice. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, March 22, from her late home to the Cressman Mennonite Church, Breslau, and interment was made in adjoining cemetery. Services conducted by Oscar Burkholder. Text, 1 Cor. 13: 12.

    HESPELER, March 11, Rev. A. B. Snyder, 74, one of the best known residents of this district and former pastor of Wanner Mennonite church, near here, died at his home at Fisher Mills today. The deceased, who was a life long resident of the district was ordained in 1893 and for 40 years, was the minister of the Wanner Mennonite church. He took a great interest in educational and missionary activities of the Mennonite church. He was the chairman of the Mennonite Bible School, at Kitchener, during the early years, following its organization. He also served on the Mennonite Mission Board of Ontario, for a number of years. He was married on May 17, 1892, to Mary Groff of Waterloo, who survives with the following children; Mrs, Nelson Bechtel of Hespeler. Oliver A. Snyder of Hesprler, Mrs. Chester Buschert of Preston, Mrs. Howard Cressman, Hespeler, Edward and Emma at home. The funeral will be held at 1: 30 p.m., Friday, from the residence, to the Wanner Mennonite church, for service at 2: 30, with Interment in the adjoining Cemetery. Bishop B. M. Kanagy, the pastor of the congregation and Rev. P. F. Coffman of Vineland, will oonduct the services.

On June 18th, 1892, he was ordained to the ministry of the Mennonite Church. Up to the present he has proved himself to be an able man and no doubt in time will be one of the ablest ministers of the Mennonite body. His family consists of two children named ."

    Mrs. Mary Snyder

    HESPELER, Nov. 24. Death occurred at her home, R.R. 2 Preston, on Tuesday, of Mary Groff, widow of the late Rev. A. B. Snyder. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Groff, the deceased was a native of Waterloo, She was the last surviving member of her family. In 1891 she married, Absalom B Snyder. She had resided at her R.R. 2 Preston home, for nearly 60 years. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Nelson (Martha) Bechtel, predeceased her. She was long a member and active worker In Wanner Mennonite Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Chester (Edna) Buschert of Preston; Mrs. Norman (Ida) Snider of Elmira; Emma of Hamilton and two sons, Oliver of Hespeler and Edward of Preston. Thirteen grandchildren also survive. A private service will be held at the late residence, at 2: 30 p.m., tomorrow, with a public service at Wanner Church, at 3 p.m. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.

    CRESSMAN. On the 5th of January, near Breslau, Waterloo county, Ont., of paralysis, Joseph Cressman, aged 68 years, 5 months and 2 days. Buried on the 8th at Cressman's Meeting-house, where a large congregation of friends and acquaintances assembled to pay their last respects and adieu to the beloved brother, whom we believe fell asleep in Jesus. He left a widow and 5 children and a number of grandchildren to mourn his departure. Funeral services by E. E. Weber and J. Woolner.

    CRESSMAN - On the 7th of September, 1893, at Breslau, Ontario, sister Veronica, widow of the late Bro. Joseph Cressman, aged 73 y., 10 m., 11 d. She died with a living hope. Buried on the 10th at Breslau, followed to the grave by many relatives and friends. She leaves a number of children and grandchildren to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held by Jacob Woolner in German, and by Amos Eby in English.

    DEATH OF ANDREW GROFF.


    Mr. Andrew Groff, a well known farmer, residing one mile north of Waterloo, passed away at 8.30 o'clock Wednesday morning, after an illness of several weeks, at the advanced age of 79 years and 10 months. The funeral will take place on Saturday morning. April 29th, at 9.30 o'clock, from his late residence, thence to Martin's meeting house for service and interment. The late Andrew H. Groff was born near Galt, Ont.. July 26th, 1825. On May 30th, 1818 was married to Mary Baumann, who predeceased. him in the year 1900. They resided on beautiful farm, one mile north of the town of Waterloo. To them were born a family of nine children, viz::- Henry, of Dundee, Minn., Magdalen, married to Tilman B. Snyder, a farmer and stock raiser in Sanborn, la.. Isaac B., residing on a farm near Yatton. Peel Tp., Israel, residing on. a farm in Pilkington Tp., Ephraim, of Iowa, dealer in stock, Mary, married to Rev. Absalom B. Snyder, a farm near Hespeler, Andrew B., unmarried, Pilkington Tp., Allan, unmarried, near German Mills, Lydia Ann, married to Abram Snyder, the old homestead near Waterloo.

    Death of Mrs. Andrew Groff. The many friends of Mrs. Andrew

    Groff will learn with deep regret of her death which took place at her home north of Waterloo 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, at the age of 70 years. The funeral take will place at half past nine Saturday morning, March 2nd, from the residence, thence to Martin's meetng house for service and interment.

    Mrs Groff, nee Mary Bowman, was the third daughter of the late Henry B. B. Bowman, Blair, and was born September 22nd, 1830. She was married to her now bereaved husband May 30th, 1848. Nine children were the fruit of this marriage all of whom are still living, viz: Henry, of Dundee, Minn; Magdalena, wife of T. B. Snider, Sanborn, Ia; Isaac, Peel township; Israel, Pilkington township; Ephraim, at present in Iowa; Mary wife of Rev Absalom B. Snyder, near Hespeler; Lydia Ann, wife of Abram B. Snyder, on the homestead, Waterloo, and Andrew and Allan, unmarried.

    She was a kind and helpful neighbor, s good mother and wife and was universally esteemed. The husband and family will have the heartfelt sympathy of their friends and neighbors in the great loss they have sustained.
