The death occurred in Ayr on Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry C. Elliott, of Mrs. James Dennis, aged 85 years. She had been seriously ill for only a short time. One of Ayr's oldest and most respected residents, Mrs. Dennis celebrated her birthday quietly on January 21, to take her place near the head of the village's senior citizens in longevity. A native of Exeter, Devonshire, England, she was the former Annie Williams and came to Ayr with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Williams, some 75 years ago. She lived nearly all her life in this village, although in later years she resided with family members in other centres at various periods. She was married to James Dennis early in life and they resided on Swan street for many years. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. Mrs. Dennis was a valued member of Knox United Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Henry C. (Lottie) Elliott, Ayr; Mrs. A. E. (Florence) Halliday, Chatham, and Mrs. Arthur (Myrtle) Cropp, Burlington; a son, Harry of Acton; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Snyder, RR 1, Ayr, and Mrs. Jessie Mott of Detroit. Eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
