    HORST, Lydian (Mrs. Enos R.) - On Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus, Lydian (Gingrich) Horst, in her 96th year, of RR 1, Elmira. Wife of the late Enos R. Horst (1996). Mother of Aden and Alice of RR 1, Elmira, Almeda and Ephraim Frey of RR 4, Elmira, Wayne and Jean of Drayton. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law of Rufus Bauman, Leah Gingrich, Barbara Horst and Isaac and Selina Horst. Predeceased by her parents, Addison and Mary (Martin) Gingrich; one great-granddaughter; two brothers and two sisters. Friends may call at the home of Aden Horst, RR 1, Elmira on Monday (today) from 1-8 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning, June 10, 2008 at 9 a.m. then to North Woolwich Mennonite Meeting House for further service and burial in the adjoining cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home , Elmira.

    JOHN B. HORST

    John B. Horst, 85, of Floradale, died Saturday Nov. 26, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Noah M. Gingrich, Floradale, after a short illness.

    He was born April 10, 1875, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Horst. Feb 20 1900, he married Nancy Reist. She predeceased him in February. 1942.

    Surviving are one daughter Mrs. Noah (Leah) Gingrich of Floradale; six sons, Menno of Floradale, Samuel, John and Isaac of RR 1 Elmira, Noah of St. Jacobs and Enos of RR 2, Drayton; two brothers, David at the K-W Hospital and Menno B. of St. Jacobs, 30 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

    He was also predeceased by one daughter, a brother and three sisters.

    The body was at his residence where a private funeral service was held Tuesday, followed by a public service at the North Woolwich Meeting House. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

    John married Nancy "Annie" Reist 20 Feb 1900. Nancy (daughter of Menno Reist and Mary P.     Bishop Addison Gingrich, 77, of Floradale died suddenly Saturday, June 23 at the K-W Hospital.

    Born Jan. 19, 1885, in Peel Township, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gingrich.

    Surviving are two sons, Noah of Floradale and Sydney of RR. 2, Drayton; three daughters, Mrs. Enos (Lydian) Horst and Mrs. Cleason (Salome) Martin, both of RR 2, Drayton and Mrs. Rufus (Magdalena) Bauman of RR. 2, Wallensteln; four stepsons, Joseph and Mahlon Martin, both of RR 2, Wallenstein. Addison Martin of Toronto and Silas Martin of RR 1, Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Lorne (Lucinda) Martin of Linwood; three brothers, 22 grand-children and one great-grandchild.

    The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor until Tuesday noon when removal was made to the home of his son, Noah, in Flora-dale for the service Wednesday at 8: 30 a.m. standard time. A further service followed at North Woolwich Mennonite Meeting House, Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

    MRS. ADDISON GINGRICH

    The death of Mrs. Addison Gingrich, 57. occurred at her residence. the Sixth Concession of Peel, last Thursday night, She was the wife of Bishop Addison Gingrich, bishop of Mennonite churches in the district.

    The former Mary Martin, she was the daughter of Amos Martin, Wallenstein, and the late Mrs. Martin, and was born Jan. 1, 1890. Her marriage to Bishop Gingrich took place in 1909. Three years after their marriage the couple took up residence on the Peel Township farm where they had resided since. Surviving, besides her husband, are two. sons, Noah, 8th Line of Peel, Sidney, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Enos (Lydia Ann) Horst, Mrs. Cleason (Salome) Martin, and Mrs. Rufus (Magdalena) Bauman, all of Peel Township. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, two brothers, Anson and Isaiah, Wallenstein; and four sisters, Mrs. Amos Bauman and Mrs. Ivan Cressman, Yatton, Mrs. Levi Gingrich, Elmira and Mrs. Peter Bowman, Floradale.

    The body rested at the Dreisinger funeral Chapel until Sunday morning When removal was made to the home where the service was held Monday morning followed by a brief service at the North Woolwich Mennonite Church. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Samuel Horst, "(His father was a distant relative to old Christian and David Horst) son of David and Leah (Mosser) Horst, was born in Canarvon Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (Did not receive date of moving to Canada), October 30th, 1841. He was first married to Mary Ann, daughter of Henry Martin of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was born September 23rd, 1842, and died January 3rd, 1872. On October 27th, 1872, he was again married to Magdalena, daughter of John S. and Elizabeth (Burkhart) Brubacher. She was the widow of the late Michael Brubacher (See No. 1489 for full information). She was born April 12th, 1850. They reside about three miles west of St. Jacobs. Mr. Horst has a family of seven children, the eldest four of whom were born in Aldborough Township, Elgin County, near Clachan P.O., while the younger three were born in Woolwich Township, Waterloo County, near St. Jacobs."

She was first married to Michael M., son of John W. and Catharine (Martin) Brubacher. They resided on the farm now possessed by Rev. Daniel M. Brubacher until his death which took place June 18th, 1870. Their family consisted of one daughter named Elizabeth, who was born September 30th, 1869, and is married to Cyrus Eby of Conestogo. After her husband's death she was married to Samuel, son of David and Leah (Mosser) Horst. He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, October 30th, 1841. The second marriage took place October 27th, 1872. They reside about a mile west of the Conestogo Mennonite Meeting House. Their family consists of seven children, viz: (The first four were born in Elgin Co., Ont., and the younger ones in Waterloo Co."

    Mrs. Daniel Gingrich

    An aged and respected resident of Peel Township for the past 56 years, Mrs. Daniel Gingrich, Sr., aged 82 years 4 months an 1 day, passed away on Sunday morning at the home of her son, Mr. Anson Gingrich in the Seventh Concession of that township.

    Mrs. Gingrich, who had been ill for the past three months, due to her advanced years, was born in the Township of Woolwich, southwest of Elmira, her maiden name being Magdelena Musser. After her marriage to Daniel Gingrich she lived five years with her husband on the Musser homestead and then moved to Peel Township, where she has since been a continuous resident. Her husband passed away some twelve years ago. Mrs. Gingrich was the last member of the Musser family. With a family of five, four sons survive, one daughter Noising away when five years of age. The sons are Addison, Anson and Daniel Gingrich, who reside in the same neighborhood on the sixth and seventh concessions of Peel and Henry, who has a farm north of Floradale in Woolwich Township. There are also 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

    The funeral took place this (Wednesday) morning at nine o'clock with services at the house and in the North Woolwich Mennonite church and cemetery, where the remains were interred. The clergymen in charge were Revs. John Bowman, Jessie Bowman and A. Bearinger.

    AMOS F. MARTIN

    Amos F. Martin, 84, died Friday night at the home of his son, Isaiah, near Wallenstein.

    Born in Wellesley Township, heats the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Martin. He had spent his entire life in this district. His wife predeceased him in 1928. Two sons, five daughters and one brother survive. Twenty six grand-children and 32 greatgrandchildren also survive.

    Funeral was held at 9.30 a.m. Monday at the home of his son, Iasiah [sic], followed by a service at the South Peel Mennonite Church. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
