South Easthope Pioneer Leaves 119 Descendants

Mrs. Regina Dietrich, whsoe death occurred in Kitchener, on March 15th, at the home of her son on Pandora Ave., was a pioneer resident of South Easthope, where she came with her parents, as an infant, from France, 88 years ago. Her maiden name was Regina Meyers and in 1853 she was married by Father Attner of St. Agatha, to Jos. Dietrich, with whom she lived on Lot 14, Concession 2, until the latterfs death, which took place on the same date (March 15th) forty three years ago when she moved to Kitchener. She reached the ripe old age of 90 years, 1 month and 13 days.

Deceased was a loving Mother and a kind neighbour and it is safe to say she passed to the great beyond without an enemy. She leaves 119 living descendants, including 8 children, 53 Grandchildren and 58 Great Grandchildren. The children are as follows: Joseph of Kitchener, (Mary) Mrs, D. Yausie, Sr. of South Easthope; (Carolina) Mrs. Jacob Mertz of Allendale; (Magdalena) Mrs. Jacob Hergott of Kitchener; (Agnes) Mrs. Herbert Petrie, and (Annie) Mrs. John Petrie, both of South Easthope; (Margaret) Mrs. J. D. Hergott of Walkerton; (Regina) Mrs. Simon Bundscho, of South Easthope. One daughter (Rosina) Mrs. Mike Hergott of St. Agatha, died 32 years ago

The funeral took place on Monday, March 19th, from St, Mary's R. C. Church, Kitchener, to the G.T.R. Station and via train to Shakespeare, whence the remains were taken to the cemetery, which is situated on her old Homestead. Rev. Father Hunsberger had charge of the services at the grave.

It is noteworthy to mention that this is proabably the last burial in the cemetery mentioned, the deceased being the last survivor of the older members of the South Easthope Church.
Sweetly she does slumber. Gone but not forgotten. The pall-bearers were six of her Grandchildren. The following floral tributes were given: Pillow from the children, wreaths from the Grandchildren, sprays from the Great Grandchildren and a spray from Mrs. Elroy Dietrich.
