    Passing Of Mary E. Laurie

    Former Resident of Ayr Had Been Ill for Several Months

    Funeral Held Tuesday - The death occurred on Sunday at 2.30 o'clock p.m. at the home of her brother-in-law, William. T. Edgar, 7th concession of North Dumfries, of Mary Elizabeth Laurie, in her 62nd year. Miss Laurie was ailing for several months, and, for the past month had been at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar. She was born on lot 1, concession 9, Blenheim township, on the farm now owned by her brother, Andrew E. Laurie, being a daughter of Andrew Laurie and Mary Wight, early pioneers. Here she spent her early days, after which she resided in Ayr for many years. For the past eight years she had resided in St. George. Miss Laurie was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Surviving are one brother, Andrew E. Laurie, and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. T. Edgar, North Dumfries; Mrs. Nellie Robson, Windsor, and Mrs. Jessie Davis, Staffa. - The Funeral - The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 from the home of her brother-in-law, Wm. T. Edgar to Ayr Cemetery. Rev. R. A. Steed of Knox United Church conducted the services, and the pallbearers were: J. W. Currie, Charles Robson, Rodger Laurie, Cameron Edgar, Morton Guthrie and Jack Welsh, The funeral, was largely attended, and there were many floral tributes from relatives and friends.

    Death of Mrs. Andrew Laurie, Sr. - The death took place on Friday last, at her home here, of Mrs. Andrew Laurie, after a lingering illness terminating …?... nee Mary Wight, was born at Hawick, Scotland, and came to Canada with her parents at the age of five years, settling near Galt. She was united in marriage with the late Andrew Laurie in the year 1874 and settled on the farm in Blenheim now occupied by her son, Mr. A. E. Laurie. Deceased resided on the family homestead until the death of her husband, 19 years ago, subsequently removing to Ayr, where she lived 17 years. At death she was in her 75th year. Mrs. Laurie was of a quiet, home-loving nature, devoted to her family, and was a good, kind neighbor and friend. In religion she was a Presbyterian, a member of Knox United Church, and was a woman of high Christian ideals. She lived her years amongst us one of the God-fearing, faithful pioneers of our community. The family comprises Mr. A. E. Laurie, Blenheim; Mrs. Robson, Detroit; Mrs. W. T. Edgar, North Dumfries; Jessie at Galt, and Mary at home. The funeral took place on Monday, to the Ayr cemetery, Rev. J. J. Brown conducting the service, in which he was assisted by Rev. Dr. Thomson. The pallbearers were Messrs. Jno. L. Black, And. Baptie (Guelph), Adam Lockie (Galt), Robt. Laurie (Princeton), J. W. Hunt, A. G. Laurie (Blenheim).
