    Death of John W. Bell

    John Walter Bell, a lifelong resident of this district, passed away Monday morning in Galt Hospital in his 74th year. He was born in North Dumfries Township, being a son of the late William and Magdalene Bell, and for the greater part of his life lived in this village. For over 30 years he was employed with the bridge and building department of the Canadian Pacific Railway, retiring eight years ago. Mr. Bell was a member of Dolman Lodge, IOOF, Ayr. His wife, the former Margaret Fraser, predeceased him September 16, 1935. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Howard R. Beattie (Ruby), London; a son William Toronto; four brothers, James T, and Walter G., Ayr; Alexander of Galt and William, St. George; and one sister, Mrs. C. Conochie, Galt. Two brothers, Robert and Richard died many years ago. Burial was made in Ayr Cemetery this (Wed.) afternoon.

    Mrs. John W. Bell - The death occurred in Galt Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 15th. of Margaret Fraser, beloved wife of John Walter Bell, of Ayr. She was in her 68th year and had been ill for some time and death was not unexpected. She was a daughter of the late John and Mary Fraser and was born a few miles east of the village, where she had spent the greater part of her life. The late Mrs. Bell, a devoted wife and mother, was a member of Knox United Church and had retained her usual kindly interest in her church and the affairs of the community throughout the period of her lengthy illness. Surviving are: Her husband, John W. Bell; one son, William, Toronto; one daughter, Mrs. H. R. Beattie, London; one brother, John B. Fraser of Glenmorris; two sisters, Mrs. E. Fairbairn of St. Catharines and Mrs. George Cadwell of Drumbo. An infant daughter predeceased Mrs. Bell some years ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 30 o'clock at her late residence, Northumberland Street, Ayr. The services were in charge of Rev. J. W. Currie, pastor of Knox United Church, and the pallbearers were: W. Manson, J. Cochrane, H. Rutherford, G. Smye, J. Gordon and J. Myers.

    DEATH OF A PIONEER

    Mr. John Bell, one of the pioneers of North Dumfries, and for the past few years a resident of Galt, passed away on Jan. 29th, in his 94th year. Mr. Bell had been in good health until within a week or so before his death, when he was attacked with influenza. The deceased was a native of Dumfriesshire, Scotland and emigrated to this country in 1832, taking up land in the Cedar Creek district, where he continued to reside until a few years ago, when he removed to Galt. The deceased was twice married. By his first wife, he had three children, Messrs; Richard and William Bell, of Galt and Mrs. Alex. Hunter of Michigan. The fruits of his second union were five sons and four daughters, Messrs; John, Robert and George Bell of Blenheim. Messrs; Thomas and Andrew Bell of Galt; Mrs. Andrew Oliver of Rolland, Manitoba; Mrs. Robert MoMeechan of Glenelg; Mrs. Rose of Toronto and Miss Joan Bell of Galt.
