    Bernhardt Koehler

    Bernhart Koehler of 177 Esson St., Waterloo, died on Wednesday of last week at the Kitchener-Waterloo hospital at the age of 68.

    Born in New Hamburg, April 10, 1901, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederich Koehler. He had lived in Waterloo for 44 years and was employed at B.F. Goodrich of Canada for 24 years before his retirement in 1964 He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

    One brother predeceased him. Surviving besides his wife, the former Katherine Brueckner, are one son Howard of Waterloo, and three grandchildren. Funeral services was held at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, Waterloo, Rev. Dr. Henry Opperman of St. Peters Church officiating.

    Committal was at the Woodland Mausoleum and burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

    Death of Frederick Koehler - A well-known resident of New Hamburg passed away last Friday in the person of Mr. Frederick C. Koehler, at the age of 53 years, 11 months and 10 days. The deceased was stricken with jaundice about two months ago and other complications set in, which were the cause of his demise. The deceased was born in Kitchener on February 13th, 1877, where he attended school and received his church training in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He was married on November 7th, 1899, to Augusta Marshall, of New Hamburg. He moved to New Hamburg in 1901 and started a teaming business here and later acquired a farm. Being of an exceptionally cheerful disposition he made many friends and in his work about town he became well known to the children by whom he was much liked. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Besides his sorrowing widow he leaves two sons, Bernhard and Milton, both of Kitchener, two grandchildren, besides his aged mother, one brother William and one sister, Mrs. John Brinkert, all of Kitchener. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon to Trinity Lutheran Church, where the funeral service was held by the pastor, Rev. H.R. Mosig. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery. A large concourse of relatives and friends assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed.

    Mrs. W. G. Brueckner

    The death occurred rather unexpectedly of Mrs. Elizabeth Brueckner, beloved wife of Mr. W.C. Brueckner at Baden, last Saturday morning, March 7. She had been in her usual health until last Wednesday when she suffered a stroke which resulted in her demise.

    The deceased was a lifelong resident of that village. She was a daughter of the late John and Catharine Schumacher and was born on July 8th, 1876, and was in her 66th year.

    She was married on April 16, 1895, to W. C. Brueckner, well-known harness maker of Baden. The late Mrs. Brueckner was a member of St. James' Lutheran Church and was active in church work. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid and for some years was president of the society.

    Besides her husband she leaves in bereavement two sons and two daughters, Oscar, Hespeler, Leo, Baden, (Catharine) Mrs. B. Koehler, Kitchener, (Beatrice) Mrs. Ernest Hancock, Waterloo. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Catharine Witte, Baden, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

    The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. Koehler, in Kitchener to St. James' Lutheran Church, Baden, for service, followed by interment in Fairmount Cemetery. Rev. G. R. Schultz of Philipsburg was in charge of the funeral services. Many relatives and friends were in attendance.

    Death of Mrs. Marschall

    Mrs. Bernhard Marschall, an aged resident of this town passed to her eternal rest yesterday morning at the home of her daughters, Mrs. Augusta Koehler, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 18 days. She had been in feeble health for some time but was only confined to bed for a few days. The deceased whose maiden name was Wilhelmina Bleich, was a native of West Prussia, Germany, where she was born on July 17th, 1846. She was married in 1876 and in 1883 she with her husband emigrated to Canada and settled in New Hamburg, where she resided since. The deceased was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. Three children, one daughter and two sons died in childhood, but she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Augusta Koehler, of this town, and one son, Henry Marschall, of Lisbon, besides 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to mourn her demise. Her husband the late Bernhard Marschall, predeceased her 12 years ago The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of her daughter to Trinity Lutheran Church for service with interment in Riverside Cemetery.

    Baden

    Was a Pioneer - The late Julius Oscar Brueckner was born on Oct. 7th, in Grossenheine, Saxony, and was the third child of his parents, Carl Gottlob Brueckner and Auguste Henriette, nee Liersch. He visited the city school at Grossenheine and when he reached his 10th year he entered the High School at Freiburgm under the instruction of his uncle, Mr. Passler. In his 14th year he learned the general store and dry goods business. In 1853, the 12th of September, he emigrated to Canada, and on Nov. 17th came to his uncle, Mr. Henry Liersch, at Wilmot Centre. In the year 1860, the 26th Feb., he married Miss Louisa Gungel of Hamilton. This union was blessed with two daughters, Ida, who Feb. 8th, 1861, and Emma, Mrs. Jacob S. Wahl, of St. Agatha In 1863 he was appointed teacher at St. Agatha, S. S. No. 15, through the late trustees Messrs. Henry Wahl, and Nickolaus E. Lichti. - In 1865, on the 30th Dec, his first wife died at St. Agatha On Feb. 21, 1869, he married a second time to Miss Marla Bauer of Petersburg, Rev. Mr. Schmidt of Hamilton officiating. This union was blessed with seven children, namely: William of Baden, Oscar of Stratford, Robert of Winnipeg, Latonia (Mrs. Hy. Niergarth) of Calgary, Alta., Louisa (Mrs. Jno. Issler) of New Hamburg, Peter of London and Carl Gottlob, who died on Sept. 2nd, 1883. His second wife died on March, 31, 1883. On July 31st, 1888, he married Miss Anna Hohmeier, of Breslau, Rev. Mr. Spring officiating. In the years 1870- 71 he lived in Hamilton for the benefit of his second wife's health. In the fall of 1871 he was again engaged as teacher of S. S. No. 15, St. Agatha, and taught till 1887. In 1888 he was engaged by the trustees of Baden S. S. No. 13, and taught, till 1896 when he received his first pension from the Ontario Government. About two years ago, he complained of pains and the doctor after examination pronounced the trouble inflammation of the bladder, from which he suffered severe pains until his death. On Sunday, July 27th, of his three sons, William, Oscar and Peter, had him removed to the Berlin-Waterloo hospital, after he had consented to an operation. On Monday, July 29, he was operated upon and stood the operation well, but owing to old age and weak heart he died on Monday, the same day at 5 o'clock. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, seven children and 20 grand children, also two sisters, Latonia and Hemlena of Germany. On Thursday, July 31st, on the day of his funeral, he would have celebrated the 25th anniversary of his wedding. May he rest in peace. Mr. Brueckner was correspondent for the following papers for at least 20 years of more, the Waterloo Chronicle, Berliner Journal, New Hamburg Volksblatt, and Waterloo Bauernfreund.
