In 1912 he was married to Blandina Gingrich, who died in 1956. Surviving are 3 sons (Elmer, Willard, and Floyd), 5 daughters (Lena - Mrs. John Snyder, Naomi - Mrs. Ephraim Hoffman, Valina, Lucinda, and Viola), 8 grandchildren, 3 brothers (David, Eden, and Ephraim), and 4 sisters (Rebecca - Mrs. Moses Martin, Valina - Mrs. Jeremiah Bauman, Lucinda - Mrs. Clayton Martin, and Salome - Mrs. Harvey Bauman). He was a member of the Floradale Church, where funeral services were held June 9, in charge of Rufus Jutzi.

Martin, Blandina, daughter of the late Moses and --- Gingrich, was born July 5, 1889, in Peel Twp., Wellington Co., Ont.; passed away Nov. 22, 1956, at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital after an illness of several months; aged 67 y. 4m. 17 d. On Jan. 30, 1912, she married Seranus S. Martin, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Elmer and Floyd, Floradale; Willard, Goshen, Ind.), 5 daughters (Lena-Mrs. John W. Funeral services held Nov. 25 at the Floradale Church were in charge of Rufus Jutzi and O. D. Snider. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery

Moses Gingerich

On Tuesday of this week death removed one of this district's oldest and most valued residents in the person of Moses Gingerich, whose demise was caused through a hardening of the arteries. He had been ill for sometime, and passed away at the home of his on Eli on the Fourth Line of Peel. He was born in Woolwich township on the Henry Gingrich farm, situated below Elmira, and was a lifelong member of the Mennonite church. Forty-five years ago, he was married to Mollie Hallman. After living for five years on the farm now occupied by Ephraim Martin, Mr. Gingerich moved to the homestead on which he resided until the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, four sons, Orias of Guernsey, Sask., Amos of near Waterloo; Nelson, near Elmira and Eli on the homestead, and three daughters, Mrs. Seranus Martin, of Floradale; Mr. A. Martin of Peel township and Mrs. Edwin Snyder of Waterloo.

The funeral takes place this (Thurs-day) afternoon from his late home to the Menonnite burying grounds of Upper Woolwich.

Gingrich-Magdalena (Mollie) Bauman Gingrich was born in Waterloo Co.,. Ont,. Sept 18, 1856; died April 16, 1944; aged 87 y. 6 m. 29 d. She had been in failing health since January, gradually growing weaker until she passed away peacefully at the home of their daughter, Mrs. .Seranus Martin, Floradale. She was married Oct. 29, 1876 to Henry Shantz and moved to Marybourough Twp.,. where they lived until he died Aug 12, 1879. Two children were born to the union. On Oct 26, 1884 she was united in marriage to Moses Gingrich and moved to Peel Twp.,. where they resided until he died June 23, 1931. Eight children were born to the union. She continued to make her home with her son Eli on the old homestead until 2 1/2 years ago, when she made her home with her daughter. She leaves to mourn her departure 9 children; Hannah ( Mrs., Henry Brubacher) Elmire; Henry Cyrenius Shantz, Guernsey, Sask.; Rebekah ( Mrs. Ananias Martin) Peel Twp.; Blandina ( Mrs. Seranus Martin Floradale; Leah .( Mrs. Edwin Snyder) Waterloo Twp.; Ozias, Elmira; Amos, Waterloo Twp.; Eli on the old homestead. Also surviving are one sister ( Mrs. David Martin) 57 grandchildren, and 46 great grandchildren. One son, Urias, predeceased her 32 years ago. Funeral services were held April 19, at the North Woolwich Mennonite Church of which she was a member, in charge of Bishop Amsey Martin, assisted by Bro. George Brubacher.

Deacon David Martin, "the ninth son of old Peter Martin, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, August 30th, 1815, came to Canada with his parents in 1819 and was raised on the old "Martin Farm" now possessed by Menno Gingerich. On September 2nd, 1838, he was married to Rebecca, daughter of Christian and Hannah (Paul) Shantz. Some time during October of the same year they moved on their farm, being composed of lot No. 6, Woolwich Township, one-half mile north of the Martin Meeting House. Here he has resided until his death which took place September 23rd, 1894. His first wife was born March 3rd, 1815, and died June 23rd, 1876. After her decease he was again married to Mary Johnson, widow of the late Henry Rittenhouse of South Cayuga, Welland County, Ontario. After Mr. Martin's decease she returned to South Cayuga,Ontario, where she now has her home with her son, Freeman. On June 21st, 1857, he was ordained as deacon of the Mennonite Church which position he held unto his death. His family consisted of nine children"

After his first marriage he resided on the farm now in possession of Paul M. Martin, his son-in-law, where he resided until 1893, then moved on the old 'John Sitler Farm' where he still lives retired. In November, 1874, he was ordained at the David Eby Meeting House as deacon of the Mennonite Church for the Eby, Martin and Conestogo fields of labor, a position which he still holds. Erb Street (David Eby) Mennonite Church

Early services which began around 1837 were held in private homes. Land at the corner of Erb Street and Hallman Road, where the present-day cemetery is located, was donated by David Eby Sr. on July 14, 1851; a red brick church known as David Eby's Church was built in the same year. The first minister in the new church was Jacob M. Oberholtzer who served from 1852 to 1874. He was followed by Elias Schneider (1874-1889), Jonas Snider (1892-1900), Newton Weber (1921-1923), and Noah Hunsberger (1923-1929).
Due to a difference of opinion in the David Eby congregation, Sunday School classes were held at first in a private home, that of Levi Groff, beginning in 1887. The dissension which resulted culminated in a division in the church in 1889; the minister, Elias Schneider, and the deacon, Menno S. Shantz, left the church and joined with the Old Order Mennonites of Woolwich Township. The following year, 1890, saw the commencement of "Edification Meetings", which were held in the homes of members of the David Eby congregation. These meetings later became the Young People's Bible Meetings.
By the beginning of the twentieth century, it was recognized that the church building was either in need of repair or in need of complete replacement. Consideration was given to building a new church on the same site or on a site on King Street North. A decision was made to accept from Samuel S. Snider the donation of a parcel of land which was also on Erb Street, but nearer town. Excavation of the foundation for the new church began in the Spring of 1902. A dedication service was held on August 17, 1902. A parsonage was built in 1929 on land donated by Herbert Snider, the son of Samuel Snider. The church building was renovated and enlarged in 1949-1950; a dedication service was held on April 9, 1950. Further renovations were made in 1974.

Bauman.-In Waterloo, Co., Ont., Mrs. Eli Bauman, aged 90 y. 2 m. 27 d., her beloved companion preceding her four years ago. To this union were born 12 children (8 surviving), 69 grandchildren (51 surviving), 144 great-grandchildren (126 surviving), 2 great-great-grandchildren (both surviving).This family is spread all over Canada and the United States. Both were faithful members in the old order Mennonite Church. May we as their family seek to spread the name of Jesus wherever we are. One of the Grandchildren.
