RITCHIE, John Gordon

On Monday, September 22, 2008, John Gordon (Gord) Ritchie passed away, in his 100th year. Born on Grand Avenue South, Galt, on July 19, 1909, Gord later attended Galt Collegiate Institute. In his youth he was an avid golfer and excelled in curling at the Galt Curling Club. Well known to the community, Gord worked in the family Red & White grocery store at 10 Grand Avenue for 68 years, until he retired at the age of 85. Gord was predeceased by his beloved wife, Babe (Elizabeth) and his brother, William. He leaves behind his children, John (Jean) and Sally (Ron) of Toronto, Susan (Lyonel) of Wasaga Beach, Jim (Anita) of Cambridge, Gordon (Lynn) of Manotick and Elizabeth of Istanbul, Turkey. Surviving are his nieces, Gwen Halliday and Joan Hipel; his grandchildren, Ronald, John, Candace, Natalie, Sarah, James, Robert, Heather, Connor and one great-grandchild, Alexander. The last four years of Gord's life were spent peacefully, at St. Andrew's Terrace Long Term Care facility. Words cannot express the family's gratitude for the loving care their father received from Alison, Kim and all the staff at St. Andrew's. Cremation will be followed by a private family memorial. Arrangements entrusted to Little's Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Cambridge.

John Ritchie

GALT, John Ritchie, 88, of 14 Grand Ave. South, Galt, died today at his home after an illness of several months. He was born in Huron County and had resided in Galt for more than 50 years, where he operated a retail grocery store. Mr. Ritchie was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a member of the church session. He was a member of Waterloo lodge, IOOF. His wife, the former Margaret Gramm, died in 1948. Surviving are two sons, William James and John Gordon, both of Galt; two sisters, Mrs. Jean McIntosh of Listowel. and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Brodie of Exeter and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body is at the Little Funeral Home, 39 Grand. Ave. North, Galt, where funeral service will be held, Thursday, at 2:p.m. Interment will be in Mount View Cemetery, Galt.
