    Mrs. Rebecca Perrin, 77, died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Orval Knechtel. 52 Grenville Ave., after a lengthy illness. Born at Reidsville, Ont., she was the last surviving member of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Barton. Mrs. Perrin and her husband, the late Ervin Perrin who died in 1940, farmed at Roseville for many years. She came to live with her daughter four years ago.

    Surviving are six sons, Leslie, Ross, George, Robert and Charles. all of Roseville, and James of Bright; and one daughter, Mrs. Orval (Mary) Knechtel, Kitchener. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

    The body is at the home of her son, Robert Perrin, Roseville where private funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. followed by public service at Roseville United Brethren Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Keith Nicholsan of New Dundee will officiate. Interment will be at Mount View Cemetery, Galt.

    Roland E. Maeder A life-long Ayr and district resident Roland Ed-ward Maeder of Piper Street, Ayr, passed away Sunday. February 9th in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, following a short illness. He was in his 94th year. Born in Blenheim Township, he was a son of the late Paul Maeder and Elizabeth Turner. Mr. Maeder and his wife. the former Christena McVittie Gunn. farmed for many years just south of Ayr on the present Ballantyne farm, until retiring to Ayr in 1956. He was a member of Knox United Church; past president of Ayr Cemetery Board: a member of Dolman Lodge I.O.O.F. for 73 years. and former member of Ayr-Senior Citizens. An avid sportsman. Mr Maeder played hockey on early Ayr teams: he curled in Ayr and was honoured by being made a life member of Ayr Curling Club: and was a former member of Ayr Lawn Bowling Club. In later years, he followed sports closely on radio and television. Besides his wife. who passed away December 23. 1963. he was predeceased by a brother Reginald. Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Perrin and a grandson Paul. both of Roseville. Resting at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt. where funeral and committal services will be held today (Wed.? at 1: 30 p.m. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Roland Maeder Passes

    Mrs. Boland E. Maeder, 71, Piper St., died Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener. Born in South Dumfries Township, she was the former Christena McVittie Gunn, daughter of the late John Gunn and Elizabeth Myers Gunn. The late Mrs. Maeder had lived in the Ayr district all her life. She was married in September, 1917, and she and her husband farmed south of Ayr until they retired and moved to the village in 1956. Deceased was a member of the Blenheim - Dumfries Farm Women's Club, the Women's Institute and Knox United Church and the UCW group of that church. An avid gardener, Mrs. Maeder was noted for her ability to grow flowers and for her skill at baking. Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Robert Perrin (Margaret), RR 1, Ayr; sisters, Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, Kitchener, and Miss Bessie Gunn, Preston; brothers, Charles, Ayr; Stanley, Preston, and Norman, Windsor; and one grandchild. Mrs. Maeder was predeceased by one sister, Edna.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service was held at the Coutts & Son Ltd. Funeral Home, Galt, on Thursday afternoon and was largely attended. The Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan conducted the service and interment was in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: George Gillespie, Hugh Gillespie, Alden Cochrane, Harley Ballantyne and Dr. G. E. D. Wilson, all of Ayr, and Edward Knorr of Kitchener.

    In January of 1890, John Perrin bought this farm which has since been in the family for over a hundred years. The double rows of trees on the property were planted in 1891 by John Perrin and his sons. The house is a two storey Late Victorian structure, with bay windows on the first floor, white trim around the windows and doors, a brown roof and light coloured bricks. The barns are painted red. Prior to purchasing the farm, John Perrin worked for variety of employers such as: Moses Unger, James Bunion, John Newstead, William Hope, and Henry Bricker, doing such tasks as cutting firewood and helping out with the wheat harvest. In 1861 it is recorded that he worked for Mr. C. Wilks at Cruickston Park, earning $89.03 and $114.55 in 1862. He also worked for Benjamin Hallman at the sawmill for a dollar a day. Mr. Perrin also had an egg dealing business with his brother William in Newmarket. The eggs were shipped to Toronto, Boston, and Scotland. The brothers transported the eggs by filling oak barrels with oats.

    Passing of John Gunn

    John Gunn, a former well known farmer of Blenheim township, passed away in Galt Hospital on Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock after a brief illness, in his 91st year. Mr. Gunn, who had resided in Galt for the past seven years, had been an invalid for two years. Born near Owen Sound, he came to this district as a lad of 14 years. In 1906 he took up farming near Washington for some four years, after which he purchased a farm on the 42th concession of Blenheim, where he resided for 40 years. This farm is now occupied by Peter McDonald. Mr. Gunn was widely known and had a host of warm friends. He was a member of Knox United Church. His wife, the former Elizabeth Myers, passed away in April, 1930. Surviving are three sons and four daughters, as follows: Charles, Ayr; Norman, Toronto; Stanley, Galt; Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, Ayr; Mrs. R. E. Raeder, Ayr; Mrs. E, P. Krantz, Ayr, and Miss Bessie, Galt. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister: Robert Gunn, Tara; Hugh Gunn, Owen Sound, and Mrs. Margaret McCarthy, Owen Sound. - The Funeral - The funeral will take place from the T. Little & Son Funeral Home, Galt, on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, with interment in the Ayr Cemetery.
