    Ephraim Knarr Passes

    Ephraim Knarr, 80, of New Dundee, died in Coutts Pavilion at Freeport Sanatorium Nov. 27, after a brief illness.

    Born in Maryborough Township, April 5, 1881, he has resided in the New Dundee area for many years. After his retirement from farming he owned and operated a sales and service deport for farm implements.

    He was the son of the later Mr. and Mrs. Martin Knarr. His wife the former Ida Quehl, predeceased him in 1955.

    He is survived by three sons, Irvin of New Dundee, John of Tavistock, Elmer of Kitchener, one daughter, Mrs. Delton (Luella) Frey Kitchener, and 15 grandchildren.

    The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, where the funeral will be conducted on Thursday at 2 pm, by Rev. H. F. Schade. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Roseville.

    James H. Sallans

    James H. Sallans, 74, of RR 2, Kitchener, died suddenly Wednesday at his home after suffering a heart attack.

    Born near Denby, he was the last member of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Sallans. He lived near Kitchener for 32 years and was a blacksmith for many years. He was a member of the Rosebank Brethren in Christ Church.

    Mr. Sallans was predeceased by his first wife, the former Alice Wilson.

    Surviving are his second wife, the former Lucy Rosenblath, whom he married in 1924 at Denby; four sons, Simon of Pelevn, Ont.; Harvey, RR 3, Bright, Michael, RR 2, Kitchener, and Willard of Preston; four daughters, Mrs. Dora Knarr of New Dundee, Mrs. Peter (Audrey) Cober of Kitchener, Mrs. Wilbert (Annie Mae) Cober, RR 2, Petersburg, and Mrs. Kenneth (Marjorie) Hill of Wainfleet.

    There are 25 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

    The body is at his residence until Saturday noon when it will be removed to the Rosebank Brethren in Christ Church for service at 3 p.m. Rev. James Sider will offichte. Burial will be in Rosebank Cemetery.

    SALLANS, Lucy (Rosenblath)

    On Thursday, March 8, 1990, Lucy Sallans, in her 93rd year.

    Beloved wife of the late James Sallans. Loving mother of Dora and her husband Laverne Bingeman of New Dundee, Roy and his wife Nellie of Kitchener, Mrs. Audrey Cober of Petersburg, Annie and her husband Wilbert Cober of Petersburg, Marjorie and her husband Kenneth Hill of Port Colborne, Willard and his wife Miriam of Kitchener and her loving daughter-in-law, Emily Sallans of Cloyne, Ont. Grandma Sallans will be missed by her 33 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews from Waterloo County and the Ottawa Valley area.

    She was predeceased by her sons, Harvey and Simon; five brothers, three sisters and her parents, Archibald and Jane Anne Rosenblath of Denbigh, Ont. Mrs. Sallans was the last surviving member of her family.

    She was a lifelong member of Rosebank Brethren in Christ Church.

    The family will receive friends at the Westmont Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa St. S., (at Westmount Road), Kitchener, today (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Transfer will be made at 1 p.m. Sunday to Rosebank Brethren in Christ Church, where service will be held at 2: 30 p.m. Spring interment Rosebank cemetery.

    Notes:

    Death of Martin Knarr - Death removed an esteemed resident on Saturday, March 24th, in the person of Martin Knarr. He became suddenly ill on Friday and passed away the following day. Deceased born in Conestogo in 1854 and married Magdalena Cassel in 1878. Four years later they moved onto a farm two miles south of New Dundee, now occupied by their son, Ephraim. Retiring from farming fourteen years ago, he acted as agent for the Massey-Harris Co. A sorrowing wife, one son, four grand-children, one sister and one brother survive.

    Mrs. Magdalena Knarr

    NEW DUNDEE: Two weeks from the day that she fell down the cellar steps at her home in this village and suffered a fractured hip. Mrs. Magdalena Knarr widow of the late Martin Knarr, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Friday, Jan. 5, in her 8lst year. A life-long resident of this district the deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Cassel and was born on Aug. 1, 1859. Following her marriage to Martin Knarr they farmed in Blenheim township for many years and retired to the village 24 years ago where her husband died in 192S. Surviving are: one son, Ephriam of New Dundee; one brother, Henry Cassel of Goshen, Ind., four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The late Mrs. Knarr was a member of the Detweiler Mennonite Church at Roseville at which place the funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon following a service at the family residence at 2 o'clock. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
