    Notes:

    COBER - Caroline John (sic - should be Jahn - see Cober, Isaac) was born Sept. 24, 1869; died Sept. 1, 1928; aged 58 y. 11 m. 8 d. On Apr. 5, 1887, she was united in marriage to Isaac Cober, who, with one son, remains to mourn her sudden departure. Sister Cober united with the Mennonite Church in 1889, and remained in this fellowship the remainder of her life. The funeral was held on Sept. 4, with services at the Cressman Mennonite Church, Breslau, Ont., and burial in adjoining cemetery. Services conducted by A. B. Snyder and Oscar Burkholder.     Jahn. - Charles Jacob Jahn was born in Germany Oct. 31, 1841; died at his home near Preston, Ont., Feb. 13, 1922; aged 80 y. 3 m. 12 d. He came from Germany with his parents at the age of 12 years. He was married to Lydia Strickler Dec. 17, 1865. To his union were born four daughters (Mrs. Isaac Cober, Mrs. John Rabe, Mrs. Charles Milliken, and Angeline). There are also six grandchildren. Services conducted Feb. 16, by J. S. Woolner and A. B. Snyder. Interment in Breslau Cemetery.

That Ludwig John of the Township of Waterloo, Gentleman, died on or about the second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four, leaving your Petitioners, the said Henry Jahn, Charles Jahn, Ludwig Jahn, and John Jahn, all infants, under the age of Sixteen years, and that they have no legal Guardians. That Mary Sail their mother, formerly the wife of Ludwig Jahn, now the lawful wife of Henry Sail of the Township of Waterloo aforesaid, is a fit and proper person to be appointed Guardian over them, and able to give sufficient sureties for the due performance of the duties and responsibilities of such Guardianship. The prayer of your humble petitioner for himself and in behalf of his aforesaid three other brothers - with their full knowledge and approbation is that their mother Mary Sail be appointed Guardian over them…

    Henry Strickler, "son of John and Lydia (Strickler) Strickler, was born in Spring Garden Township, York County, Pennsylvania, December 25th, 1824. In 1841 he left home and went to the state of New York, near Niagara Falls, where he was working with the carpenters until September 1842, when he left and travelled north as far as Preston, Ontario, where he made his home with old Mr. John Bear. Here he was engaged in working at his trade and was also in the service of old David Reist as sawmiller until the great freshet carried away the dam. From here he went and hired to Michael Fisher for whom he was engaged as foreman for some time. On October 14th, 1845, he was married to Elizabeth, daughter of David and Elizabeth (Bechtel) Histand. She was born September 13th, 1822. At present they reside about one mile east of Kossuth, Ontario. They have had a family of five children"

    David Histand, "the third son of David and Elizabeth (Bechtel) Histand, was born in Upper Providence, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, November 5th, 1789. In spring, 1816, he left his home which was in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and moved to Canada. He arrived at his uncle George Bechtel's place, at Blair, Ontario, where he soon engaged himself to Jacob Bechtel in whose services he was for one year. After the expiration of his year with Mr. Bechtel, he worked for different parties until spring, 1818. On March 10th, 1818, he was married to Elizabeth Bechtel who was born August 8th, 1792, and died July 21st, 1885. Soon after their marriage they moved on the farm now possessed by Isaac M. Shoemaker, about two miles north of Preston. Here he died January 6th, 1833, leaving a widow and three children. The widow was married again to old George Clemens."

    Elizabeth Bechtel "the sixth daughter of the same family, was born August 8th, 1792. She was nine years of age when she came to Canada with her parents. On March 10th, 1818, she was married to David, son of David Histand. He was born November 5th, 1789, and died January 6th, 1833. They resided on a farm near Speedsville. Their farm adjoined that of the late Isaac Clemens, M.P.P. Here he died, leaving a family of three children, namely: Vi George, VI Elize, and VI John. See David Histand's family. After the decease of Mr. Histand the widow was married (October 27th, 1844) to George Clemens* who was born July 16th, 1777, and died August 10th, 1863. She died July 21st, 1885."

    She came with her parents to Waterloo County in the year 1800 from Pennasylvania, where she has lived ever since and she was one of the first Pennasylvanian settlers.
