    Of 646 Moore St., Cambridge (P), at the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1978, John R. Panabaker, beloved husband of Velma, Dear father of John H. of Kitchener, Robert T. of London. Also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Panabaker was predeceased by his first wife, Violet Steel in 1961. Survived also by one brother, David of Cambridge and predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. Mr. Panabaker was born in Hespeler and lived in Cambridge all his life, retired from B.F. Goodrich, Canada Ltd. Veteran of the First World War, served with the 111th Battalion. Resting at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge (P), for funeral service, Friday, at 2 p.m. Interment in Park Lawn cemetery.

    PANNABAKER, VERONICA (Nee Holm)

    At her residence on Maple St. in Hespeler, a well known resident and one of Hespeler's most respected citizens, on Thursday night, February 7, 1946, following a short illness, in her 79th year. Wife of the late Levi Panabaker. She was a member of Hespeler United Church and was an active member of the Ladies' Aid and the Women's Missionary Society. She also took a prominent part in other affairs throughout the community. Born in Puslinch Township, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Holm, one of the pioneer families, but lived most of her life in Hespeler. Her husband predeceased her in 1942. Survived by two daughters and three sons, Mrs. Lester Rife of California; Mrs. Stan Organ of St. Catharines; David W. of Hespeler; Harold of Calgary; John of Preston; two brothers and three sisters, Walter Holm of Puslinch; Archie Holm of Guelph; Agnes and Angeline Holm, both of Puslinch. Her body rested at her residence. The funeral was held on Sat. , Feb. 9 at 3: 30 from the Stager and Co. Funeral Home. Interment Hespeler Cemetery.

    HARRY STEEL

    PRESTON, June 4--Harry Steel Sr., died at his home last night after an illness of three months. A well known and highly respected resident of the town for the past 30 years; he was prominent in industrial, municipal, fraternal and churth work of the town. Mr. Steel was active in many other phases of community work, including sport. Born in Northampton, England, he came to Canada in 1887 and was married the following year at Montreal. His wife died last year. Before coming to Preston in 1914 he made his home in Central New York State and for nine years in Quebec City. He was associated with the Parker-Steel Shoes Limited, Preston, from 1914 till 1930 when he retired to take a position with the Savage Shoe Company. He retired ten years ago. Mr. Steel served as alderman on the Municipal Council eight years and also as trustee on the Public School Board, for eight years, holding the chairmanship of the board for a number of years. He was, a past president of the former Preston Athletic Club which flourished some years ago. He was a member of Preston A. F. and A. M., Royal Arch Masons, Cambridge Lodge IOOF and Victory Encampment and of St. Paul's United Church, where he served on the church board for many years. The late Mr. and Mrs. Steel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Feb. 24, 1938. Surviving are four sons, Major H. W. Steel, Camp Borden, Fred Steel, Preston, Ralph W., Kitchener and Lieut. A. T. Steel, Chatham; one daughter, Mrs. John R. Panabaker, Preston and one brother, Arthur Steel, Northampton, England. Six grandchildren also survive. One daughter, Florence Eva, died in 1933. The remains are resting at his residence 866 Queen Street, from where the funeral will be held Sunday, at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery.

    MRS. HARRY STEEL SR.

    PRESTON, Sept. 11— Mrs. Harry Steel, Sr., a resident of Preston for the past 28 years, died at her residence at 8 o'clock last evening following an illness of seven months. Mrs. Steel, during her many years of residence in the municipality, had formed a large circle of friends and word of her passing was received with regret. Born in Northampton, England, deceased came to Canada in 1888 and was married in Sherbrooke Street Methodist Church, Montreal, in February, 1888, to Harry Steel. Residing in that city until 1901, they took up residence in central New York State. Returning to Canada in 1905, they lived in Quebec City until 1914, when they came to Preston, making their home here since that time. On Feb. 22, 1938, Mr. and the late Mrs. Steel marked their golden wedding anniversary. Deceased was a member of the Preston United Church. Surviving is her husband, one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Panabaker, Preston: f our sons, Major H. W. Steel, Camp Borden, Fred Steel, Preston, Ralph Steel, Kitchener and Bert Steel, Galt. One daughter, Florence, predeceased her in June, 1935. Remains are resting at the residence, 866 Queen Street, Preston, from where the funeral will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2: 30 p.m. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.

    David Pannebecker, "one of our most successful farmers in the county, resided about one and one-half miles north-east of Hespeler for many years. In January, 1895, he left the farm and moved to Hespeler where he now lives retired in comfort and ease. He was first married to Catharine Wanner and after her decease to Leah Wanner.     HOLM, DANIEL

    One by one, the pioneers of the district are passing away. On Wednesday morning, September 9, 1925, one of the oldest native sons of the district passed to his reward. Mr. Holm was born on lot 6, concession 3 of Puslinch Township over 87 years ago, his father Neil Holm having settled on this farm a few years before, coming from the county of York. The country was pretty well wooded and Mr. Holm's was the pioneer's lot. On August 22, he lost his wife, who shared with him the vicissitudes of life for sixty-three years. He was twice married, his first wife also a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Panabaker. Nine years ago, he retired from the farm on which he was born and made his home with his son, Walter. A man of quiet habits, he took no part in municipal life. He was a good neighbour and respected by all who knew him. Four sons and three daughters survive, Isaiah, Elias, Archie, Walter, Mrs. Levi Panabaker, Agnes and Angeline. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon, interment taking place at Wanner's Cemetery.

    HOLM, HANNAH (or ANNA, Nee Panabaker)

    On Saturday, August 21, 1925, one of the oldest residents of Waterloo Township, Mrs. Daniel Holm. She was born on the farm on which she died, nearly 83 years ago, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Panabaker, one of the pioneers of the district. Sixty-three years ago, she married Mr. Holm and for this long span of life, proved a worthy helpmeet. Loved and revered by all who knew her, Mrs. Holm lived a most useful life in the community. She was a Mennonite in religion. A family of four sons and three daughters, besides her aged husband, survive: Isaiah, Elias, Archie, Walter, Mrs. Levi Panabaker, Agnes and Angeline. With the exception of Archie, who lives in Guelph, the family reside in or near Hespeler. Up till nine years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Holm retired from farming and came to make their home with their son, Walter, they resided on the 9th concession. The funeral was on Tuesday afternoon to Wanner's Cemetery. Rev. Snider and Rev. H. L. Merner officiated.
