Inside of twenty minutes her spirit had taken its flight. Our loss is her gain. Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the home by Bros. Elmer Swartzentruber and Ben Gingerich, and at the church by Bros. M. O. Jantzi and Peter Nafziger.

Pioneer Resident Passes Mrs. Leah Lichty Was 93 Years

Old Death called to her eternal rest the oldest resident of the New Hamburg district in the person of Leah Erb, relict of the late Christian Lichty, who passed away at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Ben S. Roth, of Friday, December 18th, at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 24 days. The deceased was born in Wilmot Township on the farm now owned by Mr. Wesley Erb, east of this village. After her marriage to Christian Lichty, she resided on a farm near St. Agatha and about twenty-seven years ago they moved to a home on Bleam's Road on the outskirts of this town. After the death of her husband in 1915 she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ben S. Roth. The deceased was a devoted member of the Amish-Mennonite Church and was beloved by a wide circle of friends. She had been bedfast since last summer but was in full possession of her mental faculties until death claimed her. In her death the last member of the pioneer Christian Erb family is removed from this earthly sphere. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Christian Lichty, of Bade, Joel, of Tavistock, Mrs. Ben S. Roth and Miss Mary Lichty, both of New Hamburg. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Two sons predeceased her. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from Mr. Roth's residence to the Steinman A.-M. Church for service, followed by internment in the adjoining cemetery. A large concourse of sorrowing relative and friends attended the funeral which was in charge of Rev. Moses Jantzi, of Baden. The pallbearers were all grandsons of the deceased, namely, Nicholas L. Roth, Lorne Roth, Alvin Roth, Wm. Lichti, Chris. Lichti and Emerson Lichti.
